Julien Gracq turned against French literary circles and rejected the Goncourt Prize, for which he had been chosen for ÒLe Rivage des SyrtesÓ (ÒThe Opposite ShoreÓ), his best-known novel. Paris, FRANCE - 8/12/1951. Julien Gracq, French writer known for Surrealism and solitude and for having turned down France's top literary prize, died on Saturday 23 in Angers, France. He was 97.
