Kate Hudson makes sure Ryder learns his ABC's
Pacific Palisades, CA - Kate Hudson and Ryder attended an orientation day at school on Friday. Kate loaded up her arms with all of Ryder's school materials, including a book reviewing all the letters of the alphabet. Kate dropped a pencil that rolled under the car, and Ryder bent down under the front wheel to grab it.

Inuit summer huting camp at the mouth of the sepentine river near Shishmaref a tiny island between alaska and siberia in the ChBritainchi sea is home to around 600 inuits or eskimos. As hunter gatherers their carbon footprint is tiny and as such are least responsible for global warming. Yet they are suffering greatly as a result. Their problem is twofold as temperatures rise the sea ice that used to protect thier island home forming around late september is now not forming until late december. this leaves them vulnerable to autumn and early winter storms that are eroding their island and washing it into the sea. Already 10 houses have been washed into the sea and more have had to be moved back from the edge. They are looking at having to relocate their whole comunity to the mainland but the government is refusing to pay for the relocation. Secondly the animals that they rely on for food are moving further north as temperatures warm making them harder to find and hunt threatening their ancient culture and identity.

    - ISAF troops in Afghanistan. After the attacks on New York and Washington on 11 September 2001, the international community declared war on terrorism. The terrorists responsible for the attacks in the USA were members of the Al Qaida network, led by Osama Bin Laden. Since Al Qaida had close ties with the Taliban in Afghanistan, the United States and Great Britain launched operation Enduring Freedom, and succeeded in toppling their regime. Shortly after that, ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) was launched under the auspices of NATO, and with a UN mandate. The aim of the mission was to help the interim government maintain security and the Afghan people rebuild their country., By February 2008, more than 40 countries were participating in ISAF, with a total of 35,000 troops. The Dutch contribution varies from 1500 to 2000 soldiers. The Netherlands is active throughout Afghanistan, helping the Afghans restore the education system, improve healthcare services and build a system of government. The Dutch effort in the south of the country has the highest profile, because that is where our troops are stationed. The Netherlands shares responsibility for the province of Uruzgan with Australia. The Dutch forces started building bases in Tarin Kowt (Camp Hadrian) and Deh Rawood (Kamp Holland) in the spring of 2006.

Dr. Robert Hutchings Goddard (1882-1945). Dr. Goddard has been recognized as the father of American rocketry and as one of the pioneers in the theoretical exploration of space. Robert Hutchings Goddard, born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on October 5, 1882, was theoretical scientist as well as a practical engineer. His dream was the conquest of the upper atmosphere and ultimately space through the use of rocket propulsion. Dr. Goddard died in 1945, but was probably as responsible for the dawning of the Space Age as the Wrights were for the beginning of the Air Age. Yet his work attracted little serious attention during his lifetime.

Dr. Robert H. Goddard at a blackboard at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1924. Goddard began teaching physics in 1914 at Clark and in 1923 was named the Director of the Physical Laboratory. In 1920 the Smithsonian Institution published his seminal paper A Method for Reaching Extreme Altitudes where he asserted that rockets could be used to send payloads to the Moon. Declaring the absurdity of rockets ever reaching the Moon, the press mocked Goddard and his paper, calling him "Moon Man." To avoid further scrutiny Goddard eventually moved to New Mexico where he could conduct his research in private. Dr. Goddard died in 1945, but was probably as responsible for the dawning of the Space Age as the Wrights were for the beginning of the Air Age. Yet his work attracted little serious attention during his lifetime.
