A stunning tower block has a high rise park space for residents – in a carved out high rise hole. The void in the middle of the tower gives occupants a shared amenity space outdoors, while offering stunning views. The proposed 360 metre high tower in Seattle, Washington State, USA, has retail, parking and co-working spaces on the lower floors, and a total of 1,080 residential units. The void contains amenities that offer stunning views to nearby Mount Rainier, one of the city’s natural highlights. The design by New York based ODA Architects reflects the firm’s founder Eran Chen's belief that every city dweller should have access to outdoor space in their homes.

REPORTAGE - London: Alltag in Holborn im West End
29th March 2017. Spotlight Holborn. Holborn is a district in the West End, central London, forming part of the London Borough of Camden. The district is home to Hatton Garden an area noted as London's jewellery quarter and centre of the UK diamond trade, but is now home to a diverse range of media and creative businesses. On Holborn Circus lies the Church of St Andrew, an ancient Guild Church that survived the Great Fire of London. However the parochial authority decided to commission Sir Christopher Wren to rebuild it. Although the nave was destroyed in the Blitz, the reconstruction was faithful to Wren's original. In the middle of the Circus there is a large equestrian statue of Prince Albert by Charles Bacon (1874), the City's official monument to him. It was presented by Charles Oppenheim, of the Diamond Trading Company De Beers, whose headquarters building is in nearby Charterhouse Street. Street scene, Gray's Inn.

    Chelsea pensioners .

    NEW BOY OF THE PENSIONERS
The Royal Hospital Chelsea, founded by King Charles II in 1862 “as a retreat for veterans of the regular army who had become unfit for duty, either after 20 years’ service or as a result of wounds”. Although there are no barracks, a certain amount of kindly discipline is maintained – a fact which these old soldiers actually appreciate. At present there are 367 Chelsea Pensioners, presided over by General Sir Cameron Nicholson, and new recruits give up their outside pension on entering the Hospital. In return he is provided with his board and accommodation, clothing, a pint of beer daily or tobacco in lieu. They purchase the summer red uniform for £15 and are expected to perform a few light duties, but the majority of the time is their own. The Hospital has much to offer with companionship high on the list. For the remainder of their days the old soldier has a place of comfort and friends with whom he can swap stories of campaigns. What more could a veteran ask for?
