The unrest that has engulfed Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank, the most serious in years, has claimed the lives of 34 Palestinians and seven Israelis. The unrest has been triggered in part by Palestinians' anger over what they see as increased Jewish encroachment on Jerusalem's al-Aqsa mosque compound. Pilot's dramatic escape after glider crashes into runway, Shoreham, West Sussex, Britain - 22 Aug 2010
These dramatic pictures show the moment a pilot miraculously survived after his glider crashed into a runway at high speed. Amazingly Mike Newman, 35, escaped from the wreckage of his Swift S-1 GIZII glider with his life. He suffered three broken vertebrae in the accident but is expected to make a full recovery. The former racing car driver was performing at the Royal Air Forces Association airshow last month at Shoreham in West Sussex when things went wrong. His terrifying crash to earth was documented by amateur photographer Rob Yuill, 62, of Hornchurch, Essex, who was part of the 15,000-strong crowd of spectators.
