Jaguar attacking a caiman
Jaguar attacking a Yacare Caiman in the Piquiri River, Pantanal, Brazil - 12 Oct 2014
This is the moment a starving jaguar desperately took on a caiman. Photographer Chris Brunskill captured the moment the elderly female jaguar attacked the reptile on its home turf in the Piquiri River in Brazil. Launching itself into the water, the big cat clamped its jaws around the caiman and a fast and furious struggle ensued. Ultimately, however, the confrontation ended with the jaguar going hungry as its prey wriggled free. Chris comments: "We found this old female Jaguar who was in very bad condition with several visible wounds on her stomach possibly caused by a fight with another Jaguar. She looked in desperate need of a meal and was actively hunting along the river bank when she grabbed this caiman right in front of my boat. There was a big splash and I took 5 pictures in about half a second before the caiman escaped from her grasp and disappeared from view".

Caiman stuck in swimming pool
Snapper Almost Snapped By Caiman Trapped In Pool
A photographer was almost snapped himself when a caiman nearly sank its teeth into his leg.
Wildlife guide and photographer Paul Goldstein rushed to assist when the 10ft reptile got stuck in a pool at Pousada Araras Lodge in Pantanal, Brazil.
Wimbledon-based Paul explains: "I was alerted by one of my tour clients after breakfast that an adult caiman was at the bottom of the pool.
"The creature had got himself stuck and local guide Juan and Ingrid Girahn from the lodge did their best to help free it from its chlorine-based incarceration.
"It proved very hard and also dangerous as a bite from this ten foot close relative of the crocodile would be more than a little graze.
"This is a heavy animal so once I realised it was a struggle I got involved but it twisted out of our grasp.
"It was not until I saw the photos that I realised it was that close to biting me.
"Eventually it was freed and skulked down to a nearby shrunken pool to go fishing, it seemed the caiman was unimpressed by the whole ordeal."

Caiman and young, Pantanal, Brazil
The Quirky Wildlife of Joanne Williams
A brightly-coloured bird admiring itself in a wing mirror, a squirrel flat out asleep on a bench and a monkey giving the finger. There is even a small bird helping a zebra with personal hygiene.
These are some of the hilarious sights wildlife photographer Joanne Williams has seen through her viewfinder in the last two decades.
The Florida-based photographer has now collected together some of her favourite images in preparation for not one, but two books showcasing her work.
This gallery of the humourous side of Joanne's photography is the result of an 18-year career that has seen her lead tours to some of the planet's most exotic places - ranging from the wetlands of Brazil to the Galapagos Islands, as well as a number of countries in Africa.
Her work is notable for its ability to capture almost human behavioural traits in members of the animal kingdom - often noticing similarities with people she knows or famous personalities.
Joanne explains: "Very often I shoot spontaneously and quickly with little fore-thought, as most of the time my subjects move at great speed and the action would be over if I stopped to think why or if I should I take the shot.
"But there is one common thread in a lot of my work, which is my deliberate act of 'humanising' much of what I see and shoot, usually with a great deal of humour associated with the whole scene. I often relate to whatever act or action is going on within the confines of that image.
"I often recognise the conduct of some wildlife critter as similar to that of a relative, friend, or business associate-even a politician or movie star! Or a famous quotation will often come to mind when I see a certain act being performed.
"An example is when I saw the beautiful Green-headed Tan...
