Heavy rains on June 30, 2013 resulted in water logging in many parts of Kolkata (Calcutta), India with daily life badly affected. The dirty stagnant water due to improper drainage system causes many diseases and is a source of environmental pollution.

The romanized spelling of the Bengali name was changed from Dacca to Dhaka in 1982.
