A Holocaust Remembrance Day Protest Against The War In Gaza
On the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, Israeli activists hold up photographs of Palestinians from Gaza who were killed during the war, in a quiet protest near Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial museum in Jerusalem, Israel, on april 24, 2025. This act defies police district commanders' instructions prohibiting such displays.

Although there is no official law banning the display of images of Palestinian children killed in Gaza, and despite internal police guidelines and the position of the police's own legal adviser opposing such prohibitions, officers continue to act against these displays. Police prevent protesters from carrying signs deemed ''inflammatory,'' and in some cases, confiscate them. Just last week, officers reportedly assault demonstrators who hold similar signs during protests in Haifa and Jerusalem. (Photo by Yahel Gazit/NurPhoto)

Millions of Israelis voted on Tuesday in a tightly fought election, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu facing an uphill battle to defeat a strong campaign by the centre-left opposition to deny him a fourth term in office. Though Odeh, an Arab candidate, is not well-known to most Jewish Israelis, the party he heads is consistently gaining momentum in the polls. A pair of one-year-old white tigers, a gift from the Moscow Zoo has arrived at Israel's Haifa Zoo. Moscow Zoo had originally promised just one white tiger but after Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin heard of the gift he decided to double it and send two. Usually associated with exotic animal shows and performances by Las Vegas magicians Siegfried and Roy, these large tigers have a genetic condition, similar to albinism, which eliminates most of the pigment from their usually orange fur, but keeps their dark stripes, thus making them not true albinos.
