A specially designed capsule that allows sleepy workers to remain upright while catching a power nap has gone on sale.
The booth, called Giraffenap, takes up about 1.2 square meters of floorspace and stands about 2.5 meters tall.
There are two models — the Spacia with a clean futuristic profile and the Forest version with wood panelling.
The insides of both are identical with cushioned ergonomic support which allows users to stand upright while resting their heads on an integrated pillow.
The booths began as a novelty when an early version was installed at a Nescafe coffee bar in Tokyo, Japan.
It was for a “Standing Coffee Nap” promotion.
But the makers, Koyoju Plywood Corporation, got such a response to the booths they have begun marketing them this month in Japan with a list price of $25,000 USD each.
They say a 20-minute Giraffenap snooze will improve mental performance by reducing fatigue and stress while boosting concentration and memory retention.
