LIBYA : Moammar Gaddafi after the 8 May 1984 coup attempt
Moammar Gaddafi rides at the hippodrome near the Airport of Tripoli after the 8 May 1984 coup attempt against him. The 8th of May 1984 some members of the National Front for the Salvation of Libya " al-Jabha al-Wataniya li-Inqath Libya" ( which was established abroad on 7 October 1981 and lead by Dr. Mohammed al-Mgariaf ) entered Libya in an attempt to overthrow Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi's regime. Some of those who participated in that attempt were killed while fighting government troops in Bab al-Aziziyah where Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi's headquarters are. Government reports admitted that there were a fight between the NFSL fighters and government troops but suggested that the fight happened outside Qadhafi's residence. After the 8th of May incident many NFSL members were arrested, tried on Libyan TV and hanged in public. Tripoli, LIBYA - 12/05/1984 /Credit:WALTER RENAUD/SIPA/1102231459
