Thomas Cook passengers checking in at Stansted Airport on Saturday afternoon. The company could fall into administration this weekend. Tour operator Thomas Cook has approached the government in an attempt to plug a gap in its funding.
The travel company could fall into administration this weekend unless it finds £200m in extra funds needed to secure its future. A collapse would leave 150,000 UK holidaymakers stranded.
Thomas Cook airline, Stansted, UK - 21 Sep 2019
The troubled operator hoped to seal a rescue led by China's Fosun this week. But the creditor banks issued a last-minute demand that the travel company find an extra £200m.
The Civil Aviation Authority is on standby with a repatriation contingency plan called Operation Matterhorn. The potential cost of bringing home passengers is put at about £600m.

Photographer Malte Brandenburg said:"Initially these buildings meant a vast improvement of life for the middle class in Berlin. They provided more space and were affordable, didn?t cost much in construction and were built quickly. However with time, these buildings were not really needed anymore by their initial inhabitants. Suddenly they turned into a burden for the city as the urban lifestyle of its citizens changed and efficient and cheap housing was not of real interest anymore for the masses."

A photographer has captured a series of charming photos of Berlin's post-war housing apartment blocks.

The pictures show perfectly symmetrical concrete apartment blocks, pictured against blue skies.

Copenhagen-based photographer Malte Brandenburg, 37, travelled back to his birth place (Berlin) to capture the photo series 'Stacked'.

Malte said: "I wanted to highlight the architectural structure of these buildings rather than their social context. I think by making them comparable you notice that they all have something in common, but that the architects still maintained their individual small little features.

"For me they are not ugly leftovers from past decades in a city?s skyline. I find they tell a story, which is still relevant today, namely the tension between engineering and the human element.

Kim Wilde unveils a nude self-portrait created in 1990It has now been framed by John Jones and launches an online auction for charity via www.wildecancerfoundation.com. The benefitting charity is the 'Hertfordshire Breast Unit Appeal', where her sister in law Mandy Smith was treated for Breast Cancer. The Breast Unit in WGC came about because of a fund raising mission by Vicki Adkins MBE. Vicki's own experience with breast cancer led her to realise that a dedicated place for people to deal with such a traumatic event in their lives was badly needed within the QE2 hospital in W.G.C Hertfordshire. Vicki contacted Kim in the early fund raising days and she was very happy to help out at several events. Eventually when the unit was built Vicki asked Kim to design a garden attached to the unit - a private, peaceful space for anyone affected by breast cancer to go and take time out away from other patients and staff.

Kim commented on the self portrait - 'I called this 'Sunburn' and was inspired to do it after reading an amazing book about Frida Kahlo by Hayden Herrera. I'd forgotten I had it until I cleared out a cluttered room, and there it was inside my old art portfolio from college. When I saw it I thought that it would be perfect to raise money for my chosen charity. It has since been generously framed by John Jones (London) who, frankly, are much more used to framing priceless works of art!'

Farmer Carol McGuire has drafted in llamas as unlikely security guards to protect her sheep from foxes. After sheepdogs proved useless she desperately needed some other method to keep her flock safe, and since investing in the exotic animals, who fend off predators by spitting, she hasn't lost any sheep. Carol said: 'Getting in llamas was the best thing I've ever done. The sheepdogs kept getting injured and they didn't bond with my sheep at all. But the llamas work because they think of the sheep as one of their own herd. They take extra special care of them'

The Harp Gun Developed By Dr Gerald Bull Was The Basis For The Iraqi 'supergun' Parts Of Which Were Manufactured In Britain And Smuggled Into Iraq. Twenty Years Ago Dr Gerald Bull's Harp Weapon Had A 172ft 16-inch Barrel Longer Than The Teesport Find But Less Than Half The Bore. The Mammoth Steel Gun Barrel Has Astonished The World's Artillery Experts Who Belive It Would Kill More Iraqi Loaders Than Any Enemy. To Fire It Would Require 200 People And A Space As Large As Wembley Stadium. And With An Hour Needed To Reload--enough Time For Anyone To Locate And Destroy It--it Must Be At Most A One Or Two-shot Weapon. But Using Conventional Explosives It Could Target Israel Or Iran--and With A Rocket-assisted Device It Could Reach Large Areas Of Europe The Soviet Union And North Africa.
