A young girl and her mother during rallies rembering the 36th anniversary of the Islamic revoloution, Yazd, Iran. An image of Iranians united behind their government and of rabid anti western sentiment is pushed by the administration. The reality on the ground is often different, with the majority of Iranians desperate for greater freedoms and opportunity denied under the current dictatorship.

The ruins of Hazareh Castle (Bibi Minoo), which form a part of a dramatic backdrop high on a hill overlooking Minab, in Hormozgan province. Local folklore has it that the city was constructed by two sisters named Bibi Minoo and Bibi Nazanin. It is said that in the past two castles were present here. Today just the crumbling remians of Bibi Minoo greet visitors. On a clear day views stretch to the waters of the straits of Hormuz.

Men and boys training in a traditional gym for the Iranian martial art of Zurkhaneh, which is Persian for 'House of Power'. Zurkhaneh consists of seven main exercises practiced using special tools shaped after ancient weapons such as the sword, mace, shield and bow. The practice dates back more than 800 years, when Persia was invaded by the Mongols. A resistance movment formed, with men gathering in secret groups to train for the fight against the Mongol hordes.
