  • REPORTAGE - Kaliningrad: Eine Stadt in Russland

REPORTAGE - Kaliningrad: Eine Stadt in Russland
April 08, 2017 - Kaliningrad, Russia: Russian historical 'reconstructivists' watching the concert at historical-patriotic event in Kaliningrad. On April 8, as every year, patriotic festivities celebrate the capture of the city by the Red Army in 1945. The Kaliningrad governor is preparing legislation to create an electronic visa to facilitate travel to neighboring Poland and ease tensions between Russia and Europe. The federal center has not determined if the region is a fortress or a bridge and it could be the Baltic Strasbourg, a symbol of reconciliation. With a population of about 1 millionhe, the oblast's administrative center is Kaliningrad, formerly known as Königsberg. The territory was formerly part of East Prussia. With the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945, it was informally annexed by the Soviet Union. Germany currently places no claims, however it also has not renounced any claims to the possibility of territory reunification. Following the expulsion of the German-speaking population, it was populated with citizens from the Soviet Union. Only a few thousand ethnic Germans remain, most of them recent immigrants from the former Soviet Union. Early in the 21st century, the flagging economy of Kaliningrad became one of the best performing economies in Russia. This was helped by a low manufacturing tax rate related to its "Special Economic Zone" status. As of 2006, one in three televisions manufactured in Russia came from Kaliningrad. Some 2,100 employees of the Avtotor factory assemble vehicles from the BMW, Kia and Hyundiai brands for the Russian market. Another advantage is that the region has 90% of the world's amber reserves and the world's largest fossil resin mining mine. REPORTAGE - Kaliningrad: Eine Stadt in Russland
April 07, 2017 - Kaliningrad, Russia: Workers at assembly shop of Avtotor, luxury car production line of Kaliningrad.
