BABY THE BEAUTIFUL ELEPHANT IS STAR ATTRACTION IN MELBOURNE
A new baby elephant has become the star attraction at Melbourne Zoo, drawing in huge crowds ever since she was born last month.
Due to the huge numbers of people eager to catch a glimpse of the super cute new arrival the zoo has been forced to extend its public viewing hours.
Now, up to 3,000 people are lining up daily to catch a glimpse of the yet-to-be-named youngster.
The eager spectators are also being urged to cast their vote to name the new pachyderm.
Shortlisted are five Thai floral-themed names: Leelawa dee (frangipani), Mali (jasmine) Ma Li Wan (climbing jasmine) Su ma Li (osmanthus) and Lyares (meaning elephant and orchid).
Weighing in at a cuddly 147 kilograms, but growing fast, the new arrival is currently just known as 'Baby'.
She is the first baby elephant in the zoo's 147 year history and is only the second to be born in Australia.
She is also the first in the country to be conceived through artificial insemination after being born to Asian Elephant Dokkoon on 16 January after a 22-month pregnancy.
And little Baby certainly hasn't been disappointing her eager fans - happily cavorting round her enclosure and even splashing in the pool.
She also likes to mimic mom by picking up hay and pretending to eat it.
In reality, the youngster probably won't go onto solids until she's around three months old and currently downs around 12 to 14 litres of milk a day.

A bumping at the beating
A bumping at the beating.
In the year 1200, the Cornish town of Helston (famous for its floral dance), was granted its Charter. The Mayor and Corporation, with a batch of the town's youngest citizens recently carried out the ancient ceremony of "beating the bounds"
Photo shows; Councillor Reed Johns, bumps young Peter Brewer on the boundary stones during the ceremony. The lads are brought along to carry out this custom in order that the position of the boundary may be remembered. The "bumping" helps to install that memory.

Cutest creature in the World alert!
This unusual African sengi is one of two making its debut at Chester Zoo.
The tiny newcomer, also known as a round eared elephant-shrew, was born at the zoo for the very first time during the summer in a special behind-the-scenes breeding facility.
VIDEO (for licencing): https://vimeo.com/144873167
YOUTUBE: https://youtu.be/nrjPPHIgi0k
Now three-months-old and fully grown, the duo are the first of their kind to ever go on show to visitors at Chester.
Bizarrely, the tiny creatures are not thought to be directly linked to their shrew cousins in other parts of the world and are more closely related to elephants, and are amongst very few mammals that naturally pair up for life.

Mutka the Great Dane pulls a funny facial expression and sticks out his long tongue
Photographer shoots her dogs' funny facial expressions, Finland - Feb 2016
A photographer has captured the hilarious expressions of her beloved pet dog.
Krista Aalto, 29, from Finland, decided to document the facial contortions of her Great Dane Mutka.
The result is a side-splitting gallery of jiggling jowls, gurning, wide-open mouths - and an absolutely HUGE tongue.
Krista explains: "I have a passion for photography so I consider myself lucky to own such photogenic dogs.
"Both of the dogs are purebred Great Danes, Mutka, a blue eyed harlequin, is one-and-a-year old and his half sister Luna, a merle girl, is a few months younger.
"Ever since I brought Mutka home, he has been making his funny faces.
"Mutka is a very characterful dog and I began to receive a lot of comments about his funny facial expressions, so that gave me an idea to start capturing these expressions.
"He is always in a good mood! Luna is his calm and quiet counterpart."
