A robot being developed by billionaire Elon Musk’s Tesla car company has been shown off performing new, more human-like skills — including a ballet pose.
The AI-powered Optimus humanoid has been trained on film of an actor performing number of dance moves.
This is known as simulation learning.
The boat moved naturally and with perfect balance.
The mechanical muscles in the Optimus, known as actuators , are all custom designed as well as its electric motor, power electronics, gear box and battery pack.
The plan in the first instance is for the robots to work in factories, car production lines and warehouses to help make up for labour shortages.
Musk eventually wants them doing chores in homes.
Optimus has been under development since 2021.
Tesla robotics engineer Milan Kovac said the newly unveiled movements were not altered with crafty film techniques.

Figurine du robot Tesla
Picture MUST credit: Tesla Elon Musk’s Tesla company has created an action figure of its in development robot, Optimus, Tesla fans can now bring a small piece of that ambition home as a part of a display or a desk ornament. The $40 USD/ €38 euros Tesla Bot Action Figure as it is officially called, is sold through the company’s official online shop. Given the high demand and limited availability, some buyers are already waiting for restocks. Tesla said the figure was “your mini autonomous assistant and humanoid friend. “ The Tesla Bot Action Figure is a 1:10-scale collectable and playable figurine with over 40 individual parts and 20 points of articulation to look and move like the firm’s second generation Optimus. It is 18.2cm tall and the box it comes in includes a stand that looks like a Tesla car charger plus a tool called a “cyber hammer.” The full sized Optimus Gen 2 , which has an artificial intelligence powered brain, was unveiled. in December 2023. Its hands have 11 degrees of movement freedom, faster mechanical muscles known as actuators, and tactile sensors on all its fingers to enable more deft manipulation of objects. A Tesla spokesperson said at the time: “The idea of Optimus is to create a general purpose, bi-pedal, autonomous humanoid robot capable of performing unsafe, repetitive or boring tasks. “Achieving that end goal requires building the software stacks that enable balance, navigation, perception and interaction with the physical world.” Picture supplied by JLPPA

“Achieving that end goal requires building the software stacks that enable balance, navigation, perception and interaction with the physical world.” © Tesla via JLPPA/Bestimage

Tesla billionaire Elon Musk has released footage of the company’s in development robot folding a t-shirt with human-like dexterity.
The Optimus humanoid bot is being remotely controlled for the task but the smoothness of the movements looks impressive,
But Musk said the aim is to have the machine doing complicated jobs like this autonomously.
He posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Optimus cannot yet do this autonomously, but certainly will be able to do this fully autonomously and in an arbitrary environment (won’t require a fixed table with box that has only one shirt).”
Optimus is seen pulling a black t-shirt from a laundry basket, laying it out on a table and then, with clearly advanced mechanic's, neatly folding it neatly ready to be put away in a drawer.
The idea with Optimus is to build a versatile machine that is as happy stocking warehouse shelves as working on a factory production line of completing household chores.
