Highland Park July 4th Parade Gunman Sentenced To Life In Prison
ROBERT CRIMO III, 24, the gunman pleaded guilty to the mass shooting at the 2022 Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois, has been sentenced to life in prison. Though he was not in court during his sentencing hearing Wednesday and he did not watch the proceedings from jail, survivors and loved ones of those killed shared their stories. Crimo also know as Bobby, received seven consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole for each person killed in the deadly holiday attack. Received an additional 50-year sentence for each of the 48 attempted murder charges, which will be served concurrently. Charged with 21 counts of murder, three counts for each person killed. ''This court has absolutely no words that could capture the pain and horror of that July 4th,'' Judge V. Rossetti said as she announced the sentencing decision. Crimo had changed his plea to guilty last month in the shooting that left seven people dead and more than 40 injured. The plea change, which came just moments before opening statements at his trial, was a shock to many, including his own attorneys, even after years of unpredictable legal proceedings. Prosecutors showcased evidence that would have been used in his trial, including testimony from survivors, relatives of those killed and other witnesses on the rescue of a child left orphaned and a “post-apocalyptic scene” of bodies in the street and bullet-ridden lawn chairs and strollers. “It went from watching a parade to utter chaos,” testified Ms. Ring, who attended the parade with her husband and three kids. “We just had to keep going. We just knew that staying still was not a safe idea and we were terrified.”: FILE PHOTO SHOT ON: July 5, 2022, Highland Park, Illinois, USA: Police mugshot of ROBERT E. CRIMO III, 21. Detainees' Families Protest Second Hearing In 'Conspiracy Against State Security' Case In Tunis
Families and relatives of the detained political opposition figures in the so-called 'conspiracy against state security' case hold up photos of the detainees and make the victory sign during a demonstration in front of the court in Tunis, Tunisia, on April 11, 2025. The demonstration supports the detainees during the second remote hearing of the court. The demonstrators demand a public trial and reject the remote trial previously decided by the court. They protest against what they consider an unfair and invalid trial, call for the release of the detainees, and accuse the Tunisian president, Kais Saied, of using the judiciary to persecute those who reject his policies. In this context, professor and political opposition figure Jawhar Ben Mbarek, one of the most prominent detainees, is on hunger strike since March 30 in protest at his continued arbitrary detention. Since February, Tunisia sees a wave of arrests of journalists, activists, judges, businessmen, and politicians, including the leader of the Ennahda party, Rached Ghannouchi, who is detained since April 2023. Around 100,000 ticketholders joined together in central London to welcome 2025 with a spectacular display of fireworks, lighting and music
Millions watching at home and around the globe on the BBC witnessed memorable British events recreated and icons celebrated through a world-first use of hologram technology

London has celebrated the arrival of 2025 with a spectacular fireworks display organised by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.

More than 12,000 fireworks and 420 lights lit up the sky as the eyes of the world watched London’s unforgettable show, set to a soundtrack of songs and voice-over clips.

The special animations included the London Eye being filled with the Union flag in honour of the 80th anniversary of D-Day last year, Olympic medals to celebrate the success of Team GB at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics, and wishing a happy upcoming 25th birthday to official partner the London Eye.

It also featured a world-first special appearance from Paddington Bear sharing a message of hope and unity, and a reference to Charli XCX’s viral ‘brat summer’ which captured millions of young people on social media in 2024.

London welcomes 2025 with biggest-ever lighting, animation and fireworks display

Around 100,000 ticketholders joined together in central London to welcome 2025 with a spectacular display of fireworks, lighting and music
Millions watching at home and around the globe on the BBC witnessed memorable British events recreated and icons celebrated through a world-first use of hologram technology
The display looked back at 2024, including the Olympics, Paralympics and 80th anniversary of D-Day, and sent a message of unity and hope from London to the world for 2025 with a unique one-off collaboration with Paddington Bear
