RAF wings Graduation Ceremony, RAF Cranwell, Sleaford, Lincolnshire, Britain - 11 Apr 2008
Prince William has become the latest member of the royal family, along with his father and the Duke of Edinburgh, to learn to fly with the Royal Air Force. Along with 25 other RAF cadets he graduated today (11 April) and was presented with his 'wings' by his father at a graduation ceremony at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire. His graduation comes a day after the RAF celebrated its 90th anniversary at a dinner that was attended by the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and William, along with RAF personnel of all ranks. After the ceremony, Prince Charles and his wife joined RAF graduates and their families at a reception before staying for lunch. In a move guaranteed to fuel speculation about their relationship, William's girlfriend Kate Middleton was also a guest. The Prince - an officer in the Household Cavalry regiment - has been following a shortened 12 week course that is designed to make him a competent flier but not an operational one. He is now shortly due to serve on attachment to the Royal Navy

    Homing Pigeon
An eleven -year-old girl Marion Earthy and her friends one day found an injured pigeon in Church Street , Reading . That was a year ago . Marion fed and looked after the pigeon in her garden at Crown Place , Reading . Soon it was cured and able to fly again . As soon as the bird was strong enough Marion's mother thought that it should be given its freedom . So on the following Sunday morning the family went out for a drive - accompanied by '' Pidgey Pie '' - as Marion called her feathered friend . They motored out of Reading and they released the pigeon . Tears began to well up in little Marion's eyes for her and her '' Pidgey Pie '' had become as friendly as a pair of turtle doves . Two days later , as Mrs Earthy busied herself about the house , there was a coo-ing at the window . '' Pidgey Pie '' was back ! When Marion returned home from school she began crying again - but this time she was shedding tears of joy . And , '' Pidgey Pie '' and Marion lived happily ever after.......

    NEW EYES FOR AMERICAN FLEET

    7 February 1950

Looking like a hump backed silver fish is this modified Lockheed Constellation of the U S Navy, pictured here in flight. A flying laboratory, it is being readied to conduct extensive tests of the U S Navy's Airborne Early Warning radar equipment and procedures. Housed in the two large Radome humps midway along the top and bottom of the fuselage, are powerful radar antennae that can detect the approach of attacking aircraft both low and high altitude types, while they are still many miles beyond the horizon. Warnings transmitted by these radar aircraft will permit early interception by the US Navy 's carrier based fighters.
The modified Lockheed Constellation is considered a necessary adjunct to fleet defence, because ship-borne radar equipment is effectively limited to the optical horizon. Radar waves travel in straight lines, and do not bend with the curvature of the earth. This aircraft designed for high flight patrol, recently completed a long series of tests at the Lockheed field, Burbank, California. It is equipped to carry technicians and electronic equipment operators. (FOTO:DUKAS/TOPFOTO)

    SINGLE ENGINE DOES 'DOUBLE' JOB

    1 February 1950

This is the first flying picture of the FAIREY 17 anti submarine aircraft.
Feature of the plane is an engine which gives the aerodynamic advantages of a twin engine performance from a single installation.
The plane's Armstrong Siddeley 'Double Mamba' power unit is a twin co-axial turbine engine which drives contra-rotating propellers.
The aircraft can be flown with either of the propellers stopped, and flight endurance is consequently increased. (FOTO:DUKAS/TOPFOTO)
