Li Shuguang shouts at the demolition team
Man protests demolition of home, Changchun, Jilin province, China - 22 Apr 2010
MAN PROTESTS DEMOLITION OF HOME
A Chinese man protesting the demolition of his home took a stand as the bulldozers rolled in.
As the demolition team gathered Li Shuguang stood on top of his house with scissors in his hand, shouting and threatening the demolition team not to get close.
Besides him were bottles of liquor and gas and a funeral wreath.
Li also pinned two scrolls to his bare chest that read: "Li Shuguang will not die easily; Government dismantles civilian's house without reason."
The local government has marked the land in Chaoyang district where Li's home and 36 others stand for development.
According to the government all of the houses were illegally constructed and must now be dismantled.
Once the land is cleared they then intend to build new residential buildings and roads.
"This region has hygiene problems and has great danger of fire accidents," said Zhao Hongmei, director of Mengjia community, the land the government is to take for redevelopment.
After three hours of persuasion and threats Li was finally removed from his home and arrested.
According to locals Li was angry because the government didn't pay a fair price to him for his home.
