PORTRAIT - Walter Bingham
April 9, 2018 - Jerusalem, Israel - Ahead of Israel's Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day, WALTER BINGHAM, 94, speaks of his wartime experiences. Born Wolfgang Billig, recipient of the Guinness World Record for the oldest radio talk show host, Bingham was born and grew up in Germany as the Nazis were rising to power. As a child he witnessed Nazi book burnings and severe discrimination before escaping to England on the Kindertransport. Walter enlisted in the British army, was a driver in the British Royal Army Service Corps, took part in the invasion of Normandy and was transferred to Counter Intelligence where he interviewed Nazi Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop who denied all knowledge of the Holocaust. Bingham earned the British Military Medal for bravery in the field and was awarded the French Legion d’Honneur (FOTO: DUKAS/ZUMA)
