Paw aside Grumpy Cat, there's a new kitty in town!

Be prepared for the internet to grind to a halt, we present to you - Purrmanently Sad Cat.

The mournful kitten is owned by Ashley Herring, 21, from New Orleans.

She explains: "My cat recently had a litter of kittens. My roommate Bridget Ayers and I realised this one kitten's sad face one day when we were watching them learn to walk around in my room. She was waddling around and we looked at her and both just went Oh. My. God. She looks so depressed! Perma-sad face! I decided to call this one Purrmanently Sad Cat.

"PSC is actually a very happy kitten despite her facial expression! She is currently cuddled up on my shoulder with her sister and one of her brothers taking a little cat nap! It's raining right now and she doesn't like thunder."

    Peaceful Portraits Of Dead Pets
A man has attempted to cope with his heartbreak in losing a dear friend by photographing deceased animals as if they have fallen asleep.

Turkish photographer Emir Ozsahin's 'Pastel Deaths' series places pets that have passed on in peaceful and gentle surroundings.

His work sees a dog posed lying on a chair in the garden, comforted by a blanket and with a book to 'fall asleep' reading. Elsewhere, a cat is seen lying on a warm rug in a baby pink blanket.

Ozsahin has posed the animals in such a way that the photographs have a very gentle, childlike innocence about them. His subjects look relaxed and content, as though they are just taking a rest.
The photographer says his own loss made him think about death and ways that he could use photography to help him and others view it in a positive light.

A close friend of his passed away in a traffic accident and he recalls seeing her body covered in newspapers on the highway on television. He says she was only 19 and like a sister to him.

Ozsahin explains: "I couldn't get out of my head the image of her body covered with newspapers. While I was trying to get rid of this image, I realised that the image of her alive was fading away as well. Her last photograph shouldn't have been like that. Or I shouldn't have seen that photograph."

He says the project focuses on what the deceased leave behind and how the people they leave behind want to remember them.
"I worked with animals, and because they are really close to humans, they feel like us. And we humanize them as our human born babies.

Not Ready For Your Close-Up: Cats Shun The Camera

In this unusual photo series homeless kittens are photographed giving the camera the cold shoulder - as viewers try to work out their back-story.

Self-taught photographer Arne Svenson has put together an odd yet charming cat calendar-style photo series called 'Strays'.

Instead of capturing cute photos of cute cats doing cute things he photographed kittens turning away, looking up, walking off and otherwise doing their best to avoid having their furry faces seen.

The New Yorker underwent a series of checks and rigorous questioning before he was able to 'loan' kittens to photograph for his latest project.

Eventually a cat and kitten rescue facility called Animalkind in Hudson, New York allowed Svenson to borrow several previously-stray moggies.

Explaining how he set-up the photo shoot, Svenson said: "That first day I gathered up a squirming litter of five kittens, put them in a carrier, and proceeded to the studio.

"Waiting was my two "kitten wranglers", Liza and Charles. After a disastrous attempt at letting them all out, which resulted in total mayhem, we proceeded to take one kitten out at a time and put them on garish, exaggerated versions of cat-calendar backgrounds of fabric, towels and blankets purchased from local thrift stores.

"My wranglers snapped their fingers, dangled string, and sang songs - anything to get the attention of the kittens so they could "encourage" them to move into camera position.

"After taking numerous pictures of the kittens looking at the camera I realised that there was something missing. Finally a kitten sat, looked at me, and turned her head all the way around to stare at the background. I snapped the photo and realised this was the ...
