These stunning images taken last week show the biblical conditions as drought turned to flood on the Masai Mara.
Wildlife photographer and guide Paul Goldstein captured extraordinary pictures of lone animals picking their way between 'islands' on the deluged plains.
One image shows a lioness keeping her paws dry while teetering on a small mound of earth. Another shows a forlorn gazelle hunched and exposed to the heavy rains.
Wimbledon-based Paul explains: "Last week the drought in Kenya's Masai Mara was broken. Violently.
"This was the most intense rain I have ever experienced in 25 years of guiding here."

A research organisation in Australia is going to attach tiny "backpack" sensors to honey bees with an aim to prevent the further decline of bee populations.
The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), based outside of Australia's capital Canberra, say that bees across the world are in danger partly due to Colony Collapse Disorder and the Varroa Mite.
Without bees foods such as apples, berries, almonds and coffee would not exist.

Keepers at Paignton Zoo laid on a special birthday 'cake' and some tasty treats to celebrate baby Tatau turning one.
However, it would appear that mum Mali thought the celebration was all for her as she cheerfully ripped the gift to pieces to reach the goodies inside.
But she can be forgiven for keeping the majority for herself as little Tatau still isn't fully weaned.
Though this doesn't stop the youngster from taking an interest in solid food and she was spotted happily sucking on a tomato.
Tatu was born on 11th April 2013 to mother Mali and father Demo.
According to Director of Operations and Curator of Mammals Neil Bemment the young ape is doing well and hitting all of her developmental milestones.

Coke Is It: Cheeky Monkey Raids Moped For Fizzy Drink
Coke is it for these cheeky monkeys!
This thirsty macaque wasted no time in getting its fix of fizzy drink when it spotted a bottle of Coca Cola.
A hapless local had left the beverage in a rucksack on a moped, and obviously didn't count on a troop of mischievous monkeys ransacking the bag for treats.
Tourist Andy Garner captured the hilarious scenes on Pangkor Island in Malaysia as one particular monkey not only grabbed the Coke bottle, but was able to split the base on the ground to get access to the sugary drink.
Andy, from London, explains: "It was a funny moment as we were sat on the beach and the next moment the monkeys came down from the jungle to get their hands on whatever looked tasty.
"One monkey decided to jump onto a moped parked near the beach, rip open the bag of crisps on the bike and then knock the Coca Cola onto the road and burst the bottom open to drink it.
"The monkey then ran away from the rest of his pack to finish his refreshing afternoon drink in a tree. It really made us chuckle."

Stolen 'Le Jardin' Matisse painting returned to Stockholm museum after 25 years, London, Britain - 21 Jan 2013
A Matisse painting stolen from the Modern Museum in Stockholm has finally been returned after 25 years. Le Jardin, which is thought to be worth $1millon, was stolen from the museum in 1987 by a sledgehamer wielding burglar. Shortly afterwards the thieves unsuccessfully tried to ransom the painting back to the museum. Its whereabouts for the past 25 years are unknown but it was discovered in Essex at the end of last year. Dealer Charles Roberts was asked to sell the painting by an elderly man from Poland who said he had owned the piece since the 1990s. Mr Roberts got in touch with the Art Loss Register in London, who identified the painting as a stolen work. Here's one squirrel who is simply nuts about Halloween.
Tufty the grey squirrel joined in the pre-Halloween fun at Vicky Freeman's home in Fareham, Hants.
He made short work of the treats hidden inside this scary skull, and looked like a right fright in the process.
In fact he managed to turn Vicky's garden into a real Nutmare On Elm Street.
The 54-year-old grandmother said ''I always hang stuff up in my garden for the kids at Halloween.
"I was surprised to see a squirrel so fascinated by the macabre skull it looks really scary.''

Kumbuka Is A Pumpkin Party Pooper
Only someone very brave would call 28 stone gorilla Kumbuka 'My Little Pumpkin'.
Especially as the silverback seemed less than impressed when presented with some of the carved treats as a pre-Halloween surprise at Paignton Zoo in Devon.
Keepers thought they would get him in the mood for the spooky celebration by leaving him a stack of carved pumpkins to find when he emerged in the morning.
However, after quickly dismantling the pumpkin stack Kumbuka demonstrated his dislike of the occasion by hurling them at photographer Richard Austin.
Luckily, despite his prodigious strength Kumbuka wasn't able to clear the protective moat around his enclosure and the orange missiles were left bobbing in the water.
The 15-year-old silverback weighs in at an impressive 400 pounds or 28 stone.
He was born on 15th November 1997 and came to Paignton Zoo from La Boissiere Zoo in France.
His keepers describe him as a typical teenager - he can be calm or lively, he likes some people more than others and he has a definite preference for the ladies!
He is expected to leave his Devon home for London Zoo within a few months to start a new breeding group.

Christmas Comes Early For Tiger Bandra
It would appear that Christmas has come early for one tiger at Paignton Zoo in Devon.
Sumatran tiger Bandra appeared overjoyed when a large red parcel appeared in her enclosure.
The animal-friendly gift was made of paper painted with food colouring and finished off with a hessian ribbon.
Although it was most likely the meaty gift inside that had Banda so excited.
The hungry tiger wasted no time in clawing the parcel to pieces, and in her eagerness she even appeared to get the box stuck on her head.
However, with a little thrashing around she managed to dislodge it and eventually emerged triumphant with her prize gripped between her teeth.
The early Christmas present was all part of the Paignton's environmental enrichment programme, which aims to stimulate the animals mentally and physically.
Zoo spokesperson Phil Knowling said: "It's like giving toys to your pets at home - it's just that toys for rhinos and tigers have to be bigger and tougher!"

Gross Gorilla Picks Nose And Eats It
This silverback gorilla brazenly picked his nose before eating the contents in front of a group of shocked schoolchildren.
The gorilla, called JJ, had no shame and made no attempt to disguise his bad habit while zoo visitors squealed in disgust.
The massive animal was captured on camera carrying out the human-like behaviour at Miami Zoo by photographer Adrian Tavano.
Adrian said: "JJ was not ashamed at all, he is the only male at the zoo and lives with four other females so he really is king of his domain.
"He was quite comfortable even though the crowd watching kept shouting in unison 'ew, that's disgusting.'
"At least he's an animal that doesn't know any better, if only humans could be more reserved when cleaning themselves!"
Adrian added: "I love spending time observing these animals and capturing moments that most people won't see while they hurry around the zoo".
