NEWS - Schweiz: 10'000 Unterschriften gegen Abschuss von Rehen auf dem Friedhof Riehen
Deer have lived in Switzerland's largest cemetery since it opened in 1934. Their territory measures 54 hectares and lies on the German border in the "Hornfelsen" forest. At present there are 7 babies and 21 adults, some of them are named by the cemetery gardeners. As their numbers have steadily increased from 15 to 25 in recent years, the Basel Gardens Service wanted to slaughter a number of animals.
This decision was met with great emotion. The powerful Swiss Foundation "Franz Weber" announced that the Department had accepted its application against the authorisation given by the police on 12 May to reduce the number of deer.
The foundation is supported by Brigitte Bardot. She has contacted the authorities in Basel. The former icon of French cinema and the animal and national protector Franz Weber, who died a year ago, had been close friends since the 1970s. They both took an active role in the fight against the brutal killing of baby seals.
Because of the request the shooting permit is blocked "until the facts and legal questions have been clarified ». Switzerland Riehen, May 27 2020. Photo by Francois Glories/ABACAPRESS.COM (FOTO: DUKAS/ABACA)
