August 7, 2025 – New York, New York, United States: Several ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and DSS (Department of Social Services) agents stand guard in the entrance corridor to a stairwell on the 12th floor of 26 Federal Plaza during detainments. ICE made at least 12 arrests on or near courthouse grounds since January. Arrests by ICE during President Trump's second term topped 100,000 this week, as federal agents intensified efforts to detain unauthorized immigrants in courthouses, worksites and communities across the U.S. As o the first week oif June 2025, ICE recorded more than 2,000 arrests each day, a dramatic increase from the daily average of 660 arrests reported by the agency during Mr. Trump's first 100 days in office. ICE has resorted to more aggressive — and controversial — tactics that have triggered outrage and even confrontations in some communities. His raid is a cathedral to good taste, a converted 19th-century palace called L’Hotel Marrakech. Five suites of four-posters swathed in a total of nearly a mile of white voile along with baths of trough-shaped tadelakt plaster are all set around a quadrangle of orange trees and a pretty tiled fountain. The place radiates the sort of Thirties decadence once found in Tangiers. This is in part because of the private- house feel, but also the simple elegance, the pinks and greens, the oil paintings of maharajas as well as Conran’s insistence that you can drink rose? for breakfast if you feel so inclined or smoke by the fire in the bar while listening to Duke Ellington on a hidden radio.

The German artist, whose work often concerns his country’s troubled past, has dimmed the lights in the Bermondsey gallery and filled it with a series of beds covered in metal sheets and named after famous figures who have influenced him. The Walhalla show also includes a rusty spiral staircase hung with clothes and his trademark images of towers in desolate wastelands.

Much of her childhood in Bermondsey was seen playing her Grandmothers miniature shoe cordwainers (now part of London College of Fashion) where her contemporaries include Emma Hope and Patrick Cox. This year she celebrates the 15th anniversary of her brand Fiorentini+Baker. With stores in London, Bologna, New Work and Los Angels, Barker is always jetting. A great deal of her time is spent in Italy where she oversees production at the region artisan factories.

ICE agents monitor immigration hearings in New York
August 7, 2025 – New York, New York, United States: ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and DSS (Department of Social Services) agents guard the entrance to a stairwell on the 12th floor of 26 Federal Plaza, whispering to each other as detainments are conducted. ICE made at least 12 arrests on or near courthouse grounds since January. Arrests by ICE during President Trump's second term topped 100,000 this week, as federal agents intensified efforts to detain unauthorized immigrants in courthouses, worksites and communities across the U.S. As o the first week oif June 2025, ICE recorded more than 2,000 arrests each day, a dramatic increase from the daily average of 660 arrests reported by the agency during Mr. Trump's first 100 days in office. ICE has resorted to more aggressive — and controversial — tactics that have triggered outrage and even confrontations in some communities. Those efforts include arrests of migrants and asylum-seekers showing up to court hearings or check-in appointments that the government instructed them to attend. Immigration lawyers have strongly denounced those arrests, saying they deter migrants from complying with the legal process. Immigration roundups at some worksites have also been reported recently.
