If you want to learn about the art of make-up then all you need to do is read these lips.

The lip smackingly good photos were taken by renowned fashion & beauty photographer Alistair Cowin.

They showcase the creative talents of would-be make-up artists from the NEW College in Worcestershire.

Over his 30 year career Alistair has photographed the world's most beautiful women and has worked on campaigns for many top designers and big cosmetic brands, such as Clarins.

Keen to share his knowledge with the artists of the future, Alistair approached Ruth Hancox, NEW college's head of beauty, with a collaborative idea.

Ruth's students would design and carefully execute a host of weird and wacky lip designs, which Alistair would then capture in all their glory.

The attraction, Alistair says, was the chance to work with the next generation of make-up artists and "push their creative boundaries".

The idea was for each lip to tell a story, using texture, colour, light and shade to motivate unique moods and thoughts.

The exercise raised particular difficulties for the students involved, who had to take onboard Alistair's tips regarding the relationship between the beauty photographer and the makeup artist.

With their finished designs being photographed in high resolution, the students had to focus very carefully on application as any slip would have been immediately obvious.

As such, each student started off with a base colour before painstakingly bringing their design to life on their model's pout - adding further colours and accessories ranging from glitter to baked beans!

Blood-Red Lipstick: Cubs Look Pretty After Fish Feast
These cute bear cubs look as if they are wearing lipstick.

But the blood-red effect is literally because the coastal brown bear cubs have just had a tasty salmon to eat.

They also seemed to be curious about a crow they saw hopping around their territory.

Photographer Christine Haines captured the playful youngsters in Katmai National Park, Alaska.

She explains: "Katmai is one of the best places to observe grizzly bears in their natural habitat.

"These cubs were sitting by a stream waiting for their mom to catch a spawning salmon. When they got one they sharing the meal and ate the fish from the tail down.

"The blood around their mouths had the interesting effect of making them look as if they had put on lipstick.

"The cubs were also very curious and seemed to be very interested in the movements of a black crow which was hanging around for scraps."

At night the Goniopora corals are transformed as they fluoresce, red, green and orange under blue light. The mouths of the coral animal, the polyp, are orange and the bodies and tentacles are red, tipped with fluorescent green. Some scientists believe that the fantastic colours of the pigments form a kind of sunscreen from the string ultraviolet rays in shallow water.

    Ultraviolet Undersea Life
A new collection of photographs capture the beauty of underwater life.

Award-winning photographer Louise Murray has spent the majority of her years travelling the globe documenting awesome scenery and wildlife from every country she has visited.

During that time she has often dived underwater to photograph marine creatures amongst the coral reef.

Her latest collection was captured while diving in the dark waters of Tondoba Bay in the Red Sea of Egypt.

The fluorescent images occur when near an ultraviolet torch.

Highlights include a giant clam that appears dull under natural light but glows bright red under the blue hue; a pipefish hunting at night glows orange and camouflaged fish made visible by the ultraviolet torch reveal their florescent green pigment making them known to their prey.

In comparison to the muted browns, golds, pinks and blues of a coral reef during the daytime "it looks like Oxford Street at Christmas," says Louise.

The wildlife photographer uses a powerful blue light to stimulate photosensitive pigments in the marine life, which then emit fluorescent colours.

Louise explains: "Almost all these photographs were shot after dark as the sunlight masks the colours.

"The stronger the light the better the results, I have to filter my camera and eyes with a yello...
