Here's an idea that will never take off - a hostel aboard a JUMBO JET.

The world's first built guesthouse onboard a real Boeing 747-200 has touched down at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

Guests (or is that passengers?) have the chance to sleep in the cockpit of the aircraft - which comes complete with throttle controls.

You can even wake up to the sight of real planes taxiing on the airport's runways through the windows.

The staff also dress as cabin crew - with many of them actually former air hosts and hostesses.

The plane has a reception and lounge area, complete with candlelit tables and a retro company logo, and a choice of 25 rooms.

Prices ranging from GBP 29 for a dorm bed to GBP 275 for the cockpit double, which includes private bathroom and breakfast, meaning this overnighter offers both budget flight and long haul-equivalent prices.

"It's just fantastic and unbelievably exciting to finally be able to show something so unique and special for the rest of the world," says Gisela Olsson, Site Manager at the Jumbo Hostel.

Originally delivered to Singapore Airlines in 1976, the jet also spent time in Cathay and Pan Am fleets.

But now it is grounded indefinitely could be there be any better way to join the TEN METRE-high club

    Boeing 787 Premiere Celebration
Jul 08, 2007 - Everett, WA, USA - Today at aprox. 3:45pm the New 787 rolled out of the hanger. The huge event drew big names along with big security. News Anchor Tom Brokaw hosted the event. Security included Boeings special team, WA. State patrol, and even members of the secret service. The Boeing board of directors approved offering the 7E7 Dreamliner airplane for sale in late 2003. On April 26, 2004, Japan-based All Nippon Airways (ANA) launched the 7E7 Dreamliner program with an order for 50 airplanes--the largest launch order in Boeing commercial aviation history. On Jan. 28, 2005, Boeing announced that it gave the 7E7 Dreamliner an official model designation number of 787. The airplane became known as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The model designation followed the company-announced orders from the People's Republic of China for 60 Dreamliners. Boeing incorporated the 8 at the time of the China order because in many Asian cultures, the number 8 represents good luck and prosperity. ANA will take its first 787 delivery in May 2008, when the first Dreamliner will enter service. To build the super-efficient airplane, Boeing has partnered with more than 40 of the world's top-tier suppliers. An international team is developing the airplane, led by Boeing at its Everett, Wash., facility. The 787 is a family of airplanes in the 200- to 300-seat class that will carry passengers on routes between 3,500 and 8,500 nautical miles (6,500 to 16,000 kilometers). The 787 will allow airlines to offer passengers more of what they want: affordable, comfortable, nonstop, point-to-point travel to more destinations around the world. In addition to bringing big-jet ranges to mid-size airplanes, the 787 will fly at Mach 0.85, as fast as today's fastest commercial airplanes, while using much less fuel. (FOTO: DUKAS/ZUMA)

    Boeing rolls out the 787
July 8, 2007, Everett, Washington, USA: At Boeing's final assembly factory the first 787 is rolled out in front of nearly 15,000 guests. The 787 Dreamliner, the world's first mostly composite commercial airplane, will use 20 percent less fuel than similarly sized airplanes, produce fewer carbon emissions, and will have quieter takeoffs and landings. The first 787 is scheduled to enter service in May 2008. To date, 45 customers have ordered 584 airplanes worth more than $90 billion, making the Dreamliner the most successful commercial airplane launch in history. The 787-8 Dreamliner will carry 210 - 250 passengers on routes of 7,650 to 8,200 nautical miles (14,200 to 15,200 kilometers), the 787-9 will carry 250 - 290 passengers on routes of 8,000 to 8,500 nautical miles (14,800 to 15,750 kilometers), the 787-3 will accommodate 290 - 330 passengers and be optimized for routes of 2,500 to 3,050 nautical miles (4,600 to 5,650 kilometers). The airplane will travel at speeds similar to today's fastest wide bodies, Mach 0.85. Airlines will enjoy more cargo revenue capacity.. Credit: Stuart Isett / Polaris (FOTO:DUKAS/POLARIS)

Man Lives In A Boeing 727 In The Middle Of The Woods

Bruce Campbell is an inventive engineer who bought a retired Boeing 727 aircraft fuselage and upcycled it into an unusual and innovative home. The huge 3-engine commercial airliner is propped up on concrete pillars in a suburban wooded area outside of Portland, Oregon, and has its own driveway.

The aircraft features a makeshift shower, but he is still working to install a working lavatory and to restore some of the plane’s original interior elements, like seating and lights. Campbell lives in this plane 6 months every year, and spends the other part of the year in Japan, where he is also looking to buy and similarly re-use a retired Boeing 747 fuselage. The 10 acres where he’s building his Oregon home cost $23,000 when he bought them in his 20s, and the plane set him back $220,000.
