One of the worldÕs richest men has just bought a second pile along the Thames. It is the most expensive country-house sale in almost a decade. The Culham Court estate, an immaculate Oxfordshire pile on the banks of the River Thames, has been bought for just under £35m by one of SwitzerlandÕs richest and most secretive financiers. The 10-bed, Grade II*-listed property, which nestles in 650 acres of parkland, was snapped up by Urs Schwarzenbach, 57, who runs Interexchange, SwitzerlandÕs largest private foreign-exchange company, and is said to be worth £880m (ranking him 60th on The Sunday Times Rich List). His clients include the Agnellis of Fiat and the Sultan of Brunei. Berkshire, England, Britain

When Hiroko the cat's three kittens died she didn't have time to mourn their loss - she simply became surrogate mother to two ducklings.
The 3-year-old lost all her babies within days of them being born, but when her owners, Norio and Yoshiko Endo of Saitama Prefecture, Japan, accidentally left the cat with the newly hatched ducklings she immediately began caring for them as if they were her own. Mr Endo had bought a pair of spot-billed duck eggs from a local farmer, but when they hatched he shut Hiroko into the same room as the ducklings by mistake. When he re-entered the room he found the motherly pussy grooming the ducks and treating them as if they were her kittens and now the fluffy ducks have waddled into her life Hiroko is the happiest cat in town.

Field Marshall the Giant Charolais Bull, Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, Britain - 04 Dec 2007

The farmer who brought us Britain's biggest bullock has found another record breaker - measuring 6ft 3in tall.
Arthur Duckett, 78, reckons massive Field Marshall, his six-year-old Charolet bull, weighing in at 1,360 kilos will be crowned the nations biggest. Arthur, a farmer, from Burnham-on-sea, Somerset, immediately saw the bull's potential, and said it will put on 300 kilos in the next year. He bought the white bullock two years ago and decided to keep it as a pet when he realised it was a one-off.
Two years ago Arthur and his wife Helen broke records with their 6ft 5in bull Colonel, who weighed 3,500lbs. The Colonel and Field Marshall are kept in a 22-acre field on Arthur's farm, and is in good company as he shares the plot with a 5ft 6in tall Highland steer called The Captain. 717981f

    MATCHING OUTFITS (5) SHORT - 2008

Here's the long and short of it - all fashion forward starlets know that wearing the same outfit as someone else is an occupational hazard. What's more, it doesn't matter who wore it first - it's all about who wore it best.

Christina Aguilera flaunts her post baby enhanced chest in this blue draped number, and adds some racy leopard print shoes for good measure. Taylor Swift may not be quite as upfront but she still looks pretty in pink.

Quite rightly Gwyneth Paltrow looks like a Greek goddess in her white Lanvin toga, toughening the image up with some full on bondage shoes. Meanwhile, Padma Lakshmi shows she has an eye for a fantastic colour but certainly not one for accessories.

Both Dana Davis and Minka Kelly look flirty and fabulous on the red carpet in this empire line red floral halterneck, and we're loving the choice of shoes too ladies.

Proving she's all front, Christina Aguilera comes worryingly close to bursting out of her Herve Leger dress, but we're loving the rock n roll feel her leather biker jacket adds. Amanda Bynes uses the same king of cling dress, along with chic black accessories, to flaunt her honed and toned body.

With tumbling blonde curls and itsy bitsy red Herve Leger dress Heidi Montag looks flirty and fun, it's just a shame her hideous shoes cut her legs off at the ankle. Audrina Patridge's feet are more appropriately shod and she also gets a big thumbs up for her sunshine choice of dress.

Ashlee Simpson looks suitably rock n roll in her grey puffball with the addition of bed head hair, smoky eyes and studded cuff. Danica Patrick looks equally glossy but plays it just that little bit too safe.

    Stella McCartney certainly has nothi...

    Chiang Mai, Thailand
    CHARMED BY CHIANG MAI

Chiang Mai is Thailand's "Rose of the North" - so called because of the abundance of flowers that thrive in its cooler mountain climate.

And the city itself has its own fair share of outstanding natural beauty, not to mention friendly locals; if you want to get away from busy Bangkok, but still want to stay in a big city with lots of things to do, Chiang Mai is the place to be.

Chiang Mai is the largest and most culturally significant city in northern Thailand, and is the capital of Chiang Mai Province.

In recent years Chiang Mai has become an increasingly modern city, although it still lacks the cosmopolitan nature of Bangkok. However, its multitude of attractions still attract thousands of foreign visitors each year.

And long before this influx of modern foreign visitors, the city served as an important centre for handcrafted goods, umbrellas, jewelry (particularly silver) and woodcarving because of its strategic location on an ancient trade route.

Chiang Mai was founded in 1296 by King Mengrai with the help of two of his royal friends; it soon became capital of the old Lanna kingdom. Its somewhat isolated location, amidst the rolling foot hills of the Himalayan Mountains 700 km north of Bangkok, meant that up until the 1920s the city could only be reached by an arduous river journey or an elephant back trip. This isolation has helped keep Chiang Mai's distinctive charm intact to this day.

When he first built the city, King Mengrai constructed a moat and a wall around it to protect it aga...

The 23-year-old plans to moor his new 90ft ride in Monaco, where he can soak up the rays with Pussycat Doll girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger, 29.

Lewis has even had it painted black and silver to represent his team, McLaren, with whom he has a five-year racing contract worth GBP 70m.

The yacht, boasting luxury cabins, lounges, plasma TVs and a hi-fi system, is being finished at the Sunseeker's Yard in Portland, Dorset, before it is transported to the Mediterranean.

CHEER UP CHEERIO THE ELEPHANT SEAL

Weighing just 100 lbs, and with a chunk missing from her fin, this Elephant Seal looks more than a little worse for wear.

Named Cheerio, this eleven month old seal was found stranded on California's Newport Beach on Friday (2 Oct) after going without food for several weeks.

But thanks to the rescue efforts of the Laguna Beach Pacific Marine Mammal Center, Cheerio is expected to be fighting fit in just a couple of months.

Vet Richard Evans explained that because of climate change more and more fish are moving further out to sea.

While it might mean more exercise for the fish , it's bad news for young seals like Cheerio who aren't yet strong enough to swim that far.

'Elephant Seals are smart,' Mr Evans explained. 'They have a way of looking at you and knowing exactly what you're thinking, but climate change could have a devastating effect on the population if the seals keep starving.'

Poor Cheerio who is 60lbs underweight, molting and malnourished, needed special care straightaway. Together with vet, Richard, staff at the centre gave Cheerio a nice warm shower to warm her up, before gently towelling her dry.

Then she was given a special formula through a tube to help make her feel more like her old self, before finally being given a thorough medical check and a soft blanket to cuddle up to.

As soon as the vet declares her fit in a few months, Cheerio will be released back into the wild. Judging by the way she's already splashing about with a new friend in the Marine Center pool, it shouldn't be too long before she's flipping her way through the sea.

Small enough to be used legally on the pavement or inside a shop, the GBP 5,500 QTvan is so named because it caters to three peculiarly British obsessions: caravans; queuing and tea. The tiny caravan is ideally suited to queuing overnight for the sales or tickets for Wimbledon fortnight, and boasts tea-making facilities to make any long wait bearable.According to the Environmental Transport Association (ETA), the QTvan is ideal for the estimated 220,000 people who use a mobility scooter without breakdown cover, and who face the prospect of a very long wait should they suffer a mechanical fault or their battery runs flat. Spokesman for the ETA, Yannick Read, said: (FOTO:DUKAS/REX)
