German photographer Carola Becker has captured a series of amusing images of her dog waiting for food.

The very excited pooch, named Amy, can be seen with her tongue poking out and licking her lips whilst waiting to be fed.

Carola, 26, a student from Herrenberg, Germany, said: "Amy is the most piggish and greedy creature in this world! I wanted to capture the emotions in her face when she sees food because I think it looks really funny and shows what goes on in her mind.

"For the photo series, I actually gave her little pieces of sausage and showed her the rest of it while taking the photos. I used a ring steady light (not flash) and a 50mm lens. I took about 200 - 300 pictures until I got the right shots."

British photojournalist Rick Findler spent ten days embedded with Qalubna Ma?kum - a group of foreign volunteers who have teamed up with the Peshmerga in Kurdistan, Northern Iraq to help them in the fight against Daesh AKA ISIS. Here, he recounts his experiences.

    ........

Kat, a 29-year-old volunteer fighter based here in Kurdistan, started the Qalubna Ma?kum volunteer organisation when she arrived back in December last year. The name - literally meaning ?our hearts are with you? in Arabic - was thought of after many hours of deliberation by Kat, her French boyfriend Guillaume and medic Michael Wagnon.

Kat is currently talking about how she used to use sky diving as her ?zen? to cope with the very boring free time she had in California after her seven year stint in the United States Army.

Despite the fast changes that are happening in Cuba, the population are still taking life very slowly.

Photographer Valerio Berdini has captured a series of images that show the slow, Cuban way of life.

Valerio said: "The headlines speak clear - change is imminent; expectations are high. What the analysis don't seem to touch on are the Cubans. There have been three generations of people that grew up and have been educated under Fidel Castro's socialism."

He added: "In Cuba time passes at a different pace, days do not have the rhythm of a western society. Workers are not taught the concepts of services, efficiency or excellence. Competition, the driving force of a capitalist society, is unknown in an economy where, for almost 60 years, people are used to earning their (meagre) salary regardless their productivity. There are few objectives and fewer rewards, the little money are spent in tiny undersupplied shops. People aren't seduced by adverts."

All along their journey, refugees go from one transit camp to the other.

Photographer Frederic Seguin captured a photo series of Refugees 'in transit' as they make their way between camps in Macedonia. The series shows the strength and resilience of refugees as they try to make their way to safety.

Frederic said: "I wanted to take in all the different aspects of one of these transit camps, through the eyes of refugees.

"From crossing the border to leaving on a train, my pictures show you what it is inside and outside the transit camp of Gevgelija in the south of Macedonia."

With this photo series, Frederic wanted to emphasize the changing political situation, which has affected the transit camps.

These amazing pictures show a family out for a charming fishing trip on a rickety bridge - they just happen to be brown bears.

Wildlife photographer Mike Korostelev captured the amazing scenes as a mother bear took her cubs along for a day out at Kuril Lake in Kamchatka, Russia.

Mike, who has been following the progress of the family, explains: "When she was still young we named this female bear Pushkin, after Alexander Pushkin, for her lush hair and sideburns. She has now had three remarkable cubs.

"It all began with the fact that Pushkin began to come and fish near the fence of KamchatNIRO, the research institute of fishery.

"While she went into the water to catch fish, her small cubs shivered and hung on the edge of the fence on the bridge."

Anyone who has been to Alaska will testify to its untamed beauty. Photographer Tim Plowden's visit to the Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska and its annual salmon migration struck him with "revelatory awe". He comments: "Witnessing thousands of Pacific pink salmon was a spell-binding spectacle of sight, smell and sound. Their story enthralled me - a final selfless journey". According to Tim his first sighting of the salmon migration was shared with a bearded old man. Possibly intrigued by his fascination, as Tim watched the aquatic scene unfold before him the old man shared insights from his long years as a local fishing guide into the salmon's odyssey. Tim says: "It only intrigued me further and sealed my resolution to pay tribute to this remarkable fish on its last journey back to its natal rivers. Their final resting place".

Haunting Photos Highlight The Ebola Crisis In Liberia
Kieran Kesner is a 23-year-old photojournalist who spent eight days covering the the plight of those infected with Ebola in Liberia.

His striking photographs capture the plight of the Liberian community, who can only hope and pray not to catch the devastating disease.

During his stay Kesner also photographed the burial teams and the MSF doctors (Doctors without Borders).

The current outbreak in West Africa is the largest and most severe outbreak of Ebola since the virus was first discovered in 1976.

Since the first case was noted in March 2014, there have been more cases and deaths than previous outbreaks combined; the diseases has already taken over 3,000 lives.

On August 27, 2014 Kesner boarded Delta airlines flight 2608 ready to begin his first international assignment.

"After four layovers, I arrived at the airport in Liberia. The plane came to a rough landing as it skidded to a stop on the decaying runway.

"Upon exiting passengers were met with an army of people rushing to take our temperature with thermometers shaped like guns aimed at our heads. I would soon come to realize these thermometers might as well be real guns pointed to our heads."

After washing his hands with chlorine, Kesner proceeded through the cacophony of customs where his passport was quickly stamped and he was sent on his way.

"Over the next week I would come face to face with Ebola; photographing the sick, dead and every stage of the virus in between. Realizing the severity of this epidemic that sets a country back after steadily making gains from the destruction caused by civil war from 1989-2003."

Just Days To Go: Pictures Show Russian Olympic City Not Ready
With just days to go until the start of the Sochi winter Olympics, these pictures suggest the city is not ready for the showcase event.

The shocking pictures by local journalist Alexander Valov depict the area around the Sochi Olympic Park in an unfinished state.

Documenting the progress of construction and infrastructure works while walking around the immediate area of the Olympic Park on 23 January, Mr Valov found numerous cases where he claims works had not been finished.

From his observations, he suggests that volunteer accommodation was still without electricity and sewage systems, pathways laid directly onto soil have already failed and have had to be hastily patched up, grass landscaping has been been laid incorrectly and dried up, litter and construction debris blight the area and open manholes on pathways are covered in flimsy wooden covers.

However Alexander suggests that an area he believes will be used by President Vladimir Putin has been prioritised: "It is natural for Putin to make the place where he will ape in front of video cameras and, of course, it is closed to mere mortals," he says.

Describing his tour, Alexander said: "Today (23 Jan), 15 days before the start of the Games, I walked to Imerati Valley, the site of the Olympic Park, which in the official pictures looks just fine, but the reality is far more prosaic: walkways laid for the Olympics, already collapsing, construction workers and a contactless current arena, repairs have no end. Construction debris and household garbage are a common occurrence to the areas adjacent to the Olympic Park as there ...

Top Guns: The Best U.S. Air Force Pictures of 2013

These stunning images show a year in the life of the largest air force in the world.

The United States Air Force has operations all over the world and enlisted photographers are there to capture the action.

The service's specialist Airman magazine has curated the most impactful imagery from 2013 for a special issue entitled 'Year in Visuals'.

As would be expected, the gallery features awesome images of aircraft, but there are also personal military stories including a striking image of Capt. Candice Adams Ismirle preparing for cancer radiation treatment, while Staff Sgt. Ron Blodgett is shown in tears as he embraces his son after returning from a deployment in Southwest Asia.

Managing editor Tech. Sgt. Chris Powell explains: "We pride ourselves on publishing the powerful imagery and videos Air Force photographers and broadcasters produce every day. These professionals travel the world, sometimes putting themselves in harm's way, to bring you the visual story from an Airman's perspective.

"Our goal is to make you feel as close to the story as possible, being right there with Airmen providing security in Afghanistan, a team of Airmen hiking the highest mountains on Earth or showcasing the Air Force's many aircraft conducting operations throughout the world."

The Soviet Era Cable Cars Not For The Fainthearted
In the steep valley town of Chiatura the public transport system is an engineering spectacle that, today more than ever, is not for the fainthearted.

In the early 20th century, after the seizure of Georgia by the Soviet Union, authorities were intent on building a functioning workers' town to ramp up extraction of Chiatura's vast manganese deposits.

As Soviet planners got to work on the requisite sanitarium and cultural centres, the issue of public transport within the gorge proved less straightforward.

Eventually, in an effort to conquer the town's extreme geography, a network of cable cars or aerial tramways were built to almost every corner of the mining town.

Traditionally, this transported miners from their homes at the bottom of the gorge to the mines that dotted the mountains, and was also used to transport the manganese from mine to factory.

In its heyday Chiatura was responisble for producing 60% of the world's manganese.

Today, while some of the cars have rusted away, seventeen - including the USSR's first passenger tramway- remain in service.

Most tramways in Chiatura use a 'jig back' system where two cabins are connected to the same haulage rope.

An electric motor pulls one cabin down, using that cabin's weight to help pull the other cabin up.

And, while mining isn't quite as prevalent as it once was, the tramway remains a vital resource for locals and the mines still in operation.
