Man starts own Penny Farthing bicycle postal service in Bude, Cornwall, Britain - May 2012

Penny Farthing Post
A man from Cornwall has quite literally 'got on his bike' in an effort to challenge Royal Mail's longstanding monopoly.
Graham Eccles, 32, was shocked when the price of first class postage was hiked to 60 pence earlier this year.
In response, he began his own postal service in his home town of Bude - delivering mail on a Penny Farthing.
Customers can buy a 25 pence stamp for a local letter, post it in a town shop and have it delivered the following day. Sometimes mail is even delivered on the same day.
Graham comments: "When the price increase was announced I decided to start my own postal service.
"After I discovered that mail posted in Bude was taken 50 miles to Exeter to be sorted before being brought back I became convinced I could do something cheaper and greener".
He also hoped his revitalised snail mail would renew interest in letter writing.
Since launching the service he has peaked at delivering some 100 letters a day, six days a week in a 20 mile-long round.
And he says he is "ridiculously pleased" with the local and international reaction to his initiative.
Graham has been made an honorary member of the Letter Writers Alliance of America and has his stamps selling to collectors on eBay.
In time he would like to build postboxes for his service in the shape of lighthouses across Bude and surrounding villages.
However, his first priority is buying a new bike as the 32 inch wheel model he has been using is beginning to suffer from wear and tear thanks to the popularity of his service.

Rare set of meerkat sextuplet babies born at Paradise Wildlife Park, Hertfordshire, Britain - 10 May 2012
Mandatory Credit: Photo by Gordon Rondelle / Rex Features (1719507j)
Meerkat Madness As Rare Sextuplets Are Born
These cute little baby meerkats are a rare set of surviving sextuplets.
The tiny creatures were born just two weeks ago and are already proving quite a handful for staff at Paradise Wildlife Park near Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.
Head keeper Yianna Cooling said: "They're very cute and they are just getting to the stage when their individual personalities are coming out.
"We're very proud because it is quite rare for six meerkat 'kits' to be born in one litter and for all of them to be healthy and feeding well."
Sadly one of the kits has nonetheless experienced a slight mishap - after mum Twig accidentally nipped off part of his ear.
Yianna explained: "Mum had a bit of an accident with one of them when she was moving the kits from one place to another. One of the babies has lost a bit of one of his ears. We've named him Vincent, after Vincent van Gogh! So we're now thinking of artists names for the others."
Meerkat groups, known as 'mobs' are matriarchal and are run by one breeding pair.
The top female is the only female in the group permitted to breed, but all of the others in the group help to raise the young.
Piccolo, one of Twig's older daughters, has also been offering mum a helping hand by tying to feed the youngsters - not realizing that they can't yet eat solid food.
Yianna continues: "Normally merkats give birth to litters of between two and four kits.
What's more, Twig gave birth to two babies only two months ago and another one two months before that!
"She's a meerkat-making machine!
"Luckily we've got plenty of space for the family, and the public are just going to love all the babies bouncing around!"

Women left with rolls of excess skin claims she felt happier and sexier before losing 11st, Bexley, London, Britain - 20 Feb 2012
Mandatory Credit: Photo by Jeremy Durkin / Rex Features (1712823g)
Sexier And Happier When I Was Twice The Size
Kelly Childs spent years dreaming of being slim but after losing 11 stone she says her life has been ruined.
After turning down a gastric band to lose weight naturally Kelly hoped the NHS would come to her aid and help remove the rolls of skin left by her rapid weight loss.
But after losing an appeal and unable to afford a private operation, Kelly says she would rather be fat again.
Following a strict diet and exercise regime 31-year-old Kelly shrunk from a size 28 weighing 24 stone to a size 12 and 13 stone.
But since her astonishing success on the scales rarely a day passes in which Kelly doesn't regret starting her diet.
Quite simply, she insists she felt happier and sexier when she was fat.
Friends and family find it hard to understand after witnessing her weight battle first hand.
Mother of three Kelly said: "People think I'm mad when I say I was happier when I was fat.
"But I feel no connection with my reflection in the mirror now. It's like it's not me and in a sense I'm grieving for the person I was, for the body I once had.
"The rolls of skin I have been left with disgust me. The NHS won't fund surgery to help me look normal again and I can't afford to get the skin removed myself.
"I'd rather be curvy than freaky. I've even considered putting the weight back on but I owe it to my husband and children to stay healthy so I'm trapped in a body I hate wishing I had never changed it in the first place.
"Before starting a diet women need to know the reality of what it really does to your body. I don't look like I imagined I would at all.
"My confidence, my sex life and social life have been ruined".
Kelly's weight problems began when she fell pregnant with her first child Ethan, now 12.

Board with some of the ship's notable guests and a mosaic of a bull that acts as the bottom of the pool or as a dance floor when it is lifted. First built for the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 as a river frigate called HMCS Stormont, Christina O took part in the second world war as part of the convoy that protected allied merchant ships in the Battle of the Atlantic and she was present during the D-Day landings serving off Juno beach. She is now one of the only surviving World War II ships that is still sailing. Aristotle Onassis bought the ship in 1954 and named it Christina O after his daughter. He gutted and converted the ship into one of the world's most luxurious private yachts at a cost of $4 million (equivalent to $45 million today). Chritina O is available for private charter.

Owl Always Love You: Male Owl Tries To Woo Female
These hilarious images show a male burrowing owl desperately trying to win the affection of a female.
The female owl was perched in a meadow when the male owl flew over to her.
She immediately turned her head, which was comically caught on camera by wildlife photographer Steve Shinn.
Steve said: "It seemed that the female owl was doing her best to ignore the male, eventually he started pecking her but she continued to ignore him.
"The male started to get irate and puffed up his feathers in annoyance."
Steve captured the many entertaining and curious poses of the owls in Orange County, California.
He said: "Eventually the female turned towards the male but only to warn him to go away.
"The male continued to stay near the female."
Burrowing owls are unusual in that they are active during the daylight hours.
Steve said: "The large protected meadow hosts several pairs of burrowing owls who spend the day watching and hooting at each other."

Meerkats Excited By First Whiff Of Spring
Alexandra the meerkat was excited to get her first whiff of spring today - in the form of some lovely yellow daffodils.
The youngster seemed happy to breathe in the pleasant scent from the bright blooms by burying her nose in them.
Alexandra is currently being hand-reared by staff at Exmoor Zoo after being rejected by her family.
And while she seemed to enjoy her daffodil encounter, the same couldn't be said for a group of other meerkats at the zoo.
Not content with just enjoying the smell of spring, these mischievous meerkats wanted to get a taste too.
When they were given a daffodil they decided it would make a perfect snack - until they took their first bite.
After sampling the flower they were quick to drop it - pulling a face as though they'd just taken a bite out of a lemon.

Man builds replica Titanic using 120,000 matchsticks, Southampton, Hampshire, Britain - 20 Jan 2012

Retired Sailor Builds The Titanic Out Of 120,000 Matchsticks
A retired seafarer has created a remarkable model of the Titanic using more than 120,000 matchsticks.
David Reynolds, 53, spent more than six painstaking months recreating the world's most famous liner from the original design.
The 5ft long model of the doomed passenger liner features stunning detail including cabins, propellers, funnels and the rigging.
David, who is already in the Guinness Book of Records for his matchstick modelling marvels, cut, glued and slotted the matchsticks using eight pots of glue and five scalpel blades.
If each stick was laid down end to end it would stretch to three miles long - the length of Southampton Water - from where she steamed out of on her maiden voyage.
David, a retired merchant navy sailor, now hopes his creation will be berthed in Southampton's Sea City being opened in March, a museum celebrating the city's connection with the sea.
The 1:700 scale model could become the showpiece for the Titanic exhibition.
The father-of-one from Southampton, Hants, said: "I have done a smaller one but for the anniversary I decided to go large to show off more detail."
The plans he created for his model follow the original designs and mirrors the construction of the Titanic at Harland and Woolf shipyard in Belfast.
The sculpture took 1,700 hours to build and cost 50 pounds using headless matches.
If boxed matches were used it would have cost 1,200 pounds.
It even features the same amount of lifeboats carried by the liner - 20 - which were famously only enough to hold a third of the ship's capacity, resulting in the loss of unnecessary lives.
David added: "I built the keel all out of matches, then I put on the ribs and frame and then built the ship from there.
"Each funnel has about 100 ...

Man creates guitars out of everyday objects and materials, Cannock, Staffordshire, Britain - 18 Jan 2012

Musician Makes Guitars From Everyday Objects
An eccentric musician has found the perfect way to recycle unwanted household items - by turning them into guitars.
Paul Robbins has turned tables, wardrobes, slabs of concrete and even a garden lawn edger into the instrument.
The talented guitarist from Cannock in Staffordshire has made seven of the homemade guitars since he first came up with idea.
He was inspired to make his own guitars after buying a partially completed instrument from an antique shop for GBP 10.
After finishing it off, Paul then set about making a guitar entirely from scratch - using a table leg for the neck and wood from the top of a table to make the sound box.
Since then the 59-year-old enthusiast has used a wine box, a slab of concrete and even a garden lawn edger to make his odd guitars - which are all perfectly playable.
He comments: "I first started playing guitars when I was 12 and made my first one about 20 years ago.
"I was in an antique shop and saw a partially made guitar that was very roughly cut and I bought it for GBP 10.
"I finished it off; it took months to be honest because the wood was so hard but I made a fully-fledged guitar out of it.
"Then I just made the table one and the plank one and I can't seem to stop".
Musician Paul has been in eight different bands since he joined his first one way back in 1969.
And he says his weird guitars are a big talking point among punters when he uses them on stage.
"I've used all of them on stage; usually people say 'what the hell is that?'"
According to Paul, his most recent creation - a guitar made from a garden lawn edger - came into being after a co-worker bet him it couldn't be done.
"A guy at work bet me I couldn't make a guitar out of it so I did. It sounds a bit thin but it works.
"You can make ...
