FILE PICTURE - General view of New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton. Former MasterChef contestant, Dee Virdee who is suing an ambulance service after a series of blunders she suffered after she had a stroke, Walsall, West Midlands. See NTI story NTICHEF. A former MasterChef contestant plans to sue an ambulance service, claiming she suffered a series of blunders by paramedics when she had a stroke. Dee Virdee, 34, who ran her own catering business, appeared on TV in MasterChef in 2015, getting through to the second round. After suffering a stroke on June 30, she claims she was first taken to the wrong hospital and then was violently thrown out of her seat when the ambulance braked suddenly to avoid a collision – alleging paramedics failed to fasten her seatbelt. She is now taking painkillers for serious shoulder pain after banging it when she “went flying” in the ambulance during the near-miss incident. Ms Virdee, who has a six-year-old son called Dya, had the stroke at her home in Alumwell Road, Walsall, West Mids., and was picked up by an ambulance from the West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS). Although she claims stroke patients are supposed to be taken to the Stroke Unit at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, West Mids., she was instead taken to Walsall Manor Hospital. / action press *** Local Caption *** 27669721

    STUDIO - Saliha Mahmood-Ahmed
Twenty-nine-year-old doctor, Saliha Mahmood-Ahmed, has become the MasterChef 2017 Champion, it was announced Friday 12 May, 2017, becoming the thirteenth amateur cook to claim the title.

Facing off competition from 63 other determined contestants, through seven gruelling weeks of culinary challenges and an exhilarating final cook-off, Saliha was awarded the MasterChef 2017 trophy by judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.

On her win, Saliha said: “I feel amazing right now, I can’t actually believe that this is true. I’m so happy that my cheekbones are hurting and I’m probably going to have a paracetamol for smile-induced fatigue! I’m a scientist, I’m not an artist, and this is pure creativity. To be the MasterChef champion is fantastic and wonderful. Adjectives are not sufficient. This is most definitely the coolest thing that I’ve ever done in my life!”

PORTRAIT - The Frog Restaurant in Shoreditch East London
Restaurant review of The Frog at the Old Truman Brewery, Shoreditch, east London. It’s not every 27-year-old chef who has his own website, featuring a professionally produced video setting forth his own excellence. Adam Handling, however — finalist in MasterChef: The Professionals in 2013, who got his name on his own restaurant in the St Ermin’s Hotel the following year (Restaurant Adam Handling at Caxtons), won Scottish Chef of the Year in 2015 for his chocolate, orange and caramel dessert, and has already published his first cookbook, Smile or Get Out of the Kitchen — does. Food is not just eating a meal, it’s an experience, he insists. Here in London everybodys running, if you walk, or stop, or walk back or don’t even move, or stay still, food will overtake you, you need to keep going forward. To this end, he has opened The Frog, off Brick Lane, with the aim of having five more Frogs in London within five years.

FILE PICTURE - General view of Walsall Manor Hospital, with ambulances outside. / action press *** Local Caption *** 27669711

action press *** Local Caption *** 27669715
