The magnificent Sorbonne Peristyle, the reception area in the Palais Academique, the building which houses the offices of the Rector of the University of Paris, and where important conferences are held. Two staircases, the Stairway of Sciences and the Stairway of Humanities, lead up to the Rector's Grand Salon on the first floor. The world-renowned university situated on Paris' Left Bank celebrates its 750th anniversary this year. One of the many ornate entrance doors in the Sorbonne. In an act of spite, irate craftsmen who were fed up with not being paid for their work, purposely designed the ÔS', for Sorbonne, and the ÔRF', for Republique Francaise, backwards on this door.

Famous reading room in the Sorbonne library, accommodating 400 readers. The library first opened in 1770 with a collection of 20,000 books. It now houses 2.5 million volumes, including a collection of rare manuscripts, and occupies a 10,000m2 surface.
