***Milton Greene collection sold in Poland, November 8, 2012 - Warsaw, Poland. ***
[Unique collection of photographs of Marilyn Monroe and other celebrities shot by American photographer Milton H. Greene was auctioned in Warsaw. 237 out 238 photos was sold for 2.4 million zlotys (ca. 750 thousand dollars). The highest price for single work was 20 thousand dollars for the portrait of Marilyn Monroe in the ballet dress.
Milton Greene was a photographer and producer, who had a love affair with Marilyn Monroe in late 1950s just before she married Arthur Miller. During four years Greene made thousands of photographs which were take over after his death by City National Bank in 1985.
The collection of about 4,000 Greene images and 300 nagatives was bought by American businessman Dino Matingas four years later. Greek origin businessman worked also with Foreign Debt Service Fund (FOZZ), the institution founded in Poland to buy-out abroad Polish debts in the name of a state. This operation was led by Polish secret service agent, it didn't comply with international law and was held by chains of supposititious companies. After years of lawsuits came to light that Poland lost in many transactions almost 41 milion dollars. One of the main beneficients of those money was bankrupt now Dino Matingas. As the result of a complex financial fraud scandal Poland obtained from him all collection in the early 1990s .
