Nepal Celebrates Late Summer Festival Of “Gaura” Singing Songs Of Faith And Struggle
Nepali Hindu women dance in a circle to celebrate the late summer festival of ''Gaura,'' singing songs of faith and struggle in Kathmandu, Nepal, on August 31, 2025. The festival, observed for five days and led primarily by women, has roots in ancient scriptures and centers on the worship of Goddess Gaura, also known as Hindu goddess Parvati, and her union with Lord Shiva. The word Gaura refers to Gauri, another name for Goddess Parvati, and there are more than one thousand eight hundred names for her in total. Gaura Parva commemorates Parvati's penance to win Shiva as her husband. It marks the divine marriage between the two deities, an event mentioned in the Himavat Khanda, a segment of the Skanda Purana in Hinduism and several other Puranas. In these accounts, Parvati, the daughter of the Himalaya, worships Shiva through strict fasting. Her devotion eventually results in their union, which devotees continue to celebrate every year. The Manas Khanda section of the Skanda Purana places Gaura's origins in the Himalayan region, specifically among communities in Kumaon, Uttarakhand, India. The festival is most prominently celebrated in Nepal across the far-western districts of Doti, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Darchula, Bajhang, Achham, and Bajura. It falls in August or September, depending on the lunar calendar. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto) -

Rishi Panchami Celebration In Nepal
Fasting Nepali Hindu women dance inside a temple after performing rituals in Kathmandu, Nepal, on August 28, 2025, on the day of Rishi Panchami. Rishi Panchami marks the conclusion of the Teej festival. The festival is observed primarily by women who have reached menstruation age, as a day of purification and devotion. Fasting and worship are performed to honor the Sapta Rishis--the seven revered sages in Hindu mythology--with the belief that doing so absolves them of any sins believed to have been committed during their menstrual cycles. On this day, devotees wake up early and bathe in nearby rivers, ponds, streams, or lakes as part of the ritual. They cleanse their bodies using 365 stems of Apamarga (a medicinal plant), as well as cow dung, sacred soil, and ash. The fasting ritual involves a morning bath followed by prayer. Devotees then eat a single meal consisting of grains, wild fruits, kandamul (edible roots), vegetables, and guava before resuming their fast. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto) -

Where music meets movement, Ireland’s story unfolds: sweeping audiences through the triumphs, tragedies, and courage of a nation. From the arrival of the Vikings to the rise of Brian Boru, from the sorrow of the Great Famine and through the darkness of the Easter Rising, Éireann brings Ireland’s history to life in a way that’s deeply human, utterly captivating, and impossible to forget.
Performed by a cast of world-class dancers – alumni of Riverdance and Lord of the Dance – the show highlights the athleticism and precision of Irish dance, elevated by contemporary choreography paired with the visceral beauty of live rhythm. Accompanied by a powerhouse musical trio, the show’s vocals poetically navigate the audience through a journey where the dancing and music intertwine its modern score, rooted in tradition.
The signature humour and heart remain, grounding the performance in the lyrical culture Ireland is celebrated for. Reinspired with cutting-edge lighting and stagecraft, and enhanced by cinematic, immersive visual design, the production creates a world that feels emotionally alive and theatrically bold.
With 100% live dancing and vocals, Éireann by A Taste of Ireland — balances the box-office energy of its predecessor with a striking new artistic vision: one that resonates with today’s audiences while honouring the cultural heartbeat of a nation.
After performing to hundreds of thousands worldwide witness the next chapter of A Taste of Ireland, in this strictly limited UK premiere.
