Winter the Dolphin wearing prosthetic tail
Winter the Dolphin gets a prosthetic tail to replace her own, which had to amputated after she was tangled in a crab trap, Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Clearwater, Florida, America - 23 Oct 2007
'Flipper's Fishy Tale'. A major US prosthetic limb manufacturer has come to the aid of a dolphin in need. Prosthetic experts, Hanger Orthopedic Group, who normally tackle the toughest human amputation cases offered to make a tail for 'Winter', an Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin. Two years ago, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium rescued Winter, after she became tangled in a crab trap. She was dehydrated and near death and the trap line had cut off circulation to her tail. The veterinarians had to amputate. The aquarium is now teaching Winter how to use her new tail, which has to be updated as the young dolphin grows.

Dean Gunnarson attempts to escape after being chained to the roof of a vehicle as it goes through a car wash, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada - 31 Oct 2008
THE CAR WASH CRAZY HOT WAX HOUDINI
A Canadian escape artist has managed to make a clean getaway from his latest stunt.
Dean Gunnarson was sprayed from head to toe with searing hot wax, water and soap as he attempted to escape after being chained to the roof of a vehicle going through a car wash.
In a tribute to his hero, American escape artist Harry Houdini, who died on Halloween in 1926, Gunnarson was chained and handcuffed to the top of the vehicle as it was driven through the car wash.
Gunnarson's goal was to wriggle free before the SUV reached the massive blow dryers at the end of the cycle.
Commenting on the stunt he said: "This may not be as death-defying as some of my other escapes, like being locked in shark cages underwater, but this still has elements of risks for me".
As the vehicle started its journey through the carwash, two huge rotating brushes bore down on his body.
Soap then blasted away at his eyes and water spewed from both the sides of the wash, making unpicking the locks tricky work.
He finally managed to free himself as hot wax sprayed down upon him; taking the final chain from around his neck and kneeling up to give a victory cheer.
Gunnarson has been an escape artist for 20 years and has been featured on television specials in the United States, Japan and other countries.
One of his most notorious stunts saw him tied up in chains and cuffs, dangling 200 metres over a Nevada gorge. Another saw him chained across a busy roller-coaster track in China, working to get free be...

HIPPO GETS IN THE WAY OF JUMBO FUN
When the big boys are play fighting, it's perhaps best to stay out of the way.
That's the advice one hippo should have taken when it found itself getting in the way of a jumbo tussle.
The unfortunate creature was quietly wading in the Shire River in Malawi's Liwonde National Park when two male elephants nearby decided to have a test of strength.
Photographer David Hobcote says: "The older male elephants live by themselves but the young males hang out in gangs and spend time having fun together play-fighting.
"I spotted this group and sat quietly watching then jumping about in the water. But when one of them jumped on the back of another, he knocked him sideways causing him to fall onto an emerging hippo.
"The poor startled hippo obviously wasn't expecting to be landed on by a jumbo and took off at top speed!"

Policeman John Nash gets 6 inch stick stuck in his eye while chasing a suspect, Rochdale, Britain - 19 Dec 2008
ROOKIE cop John Nash refused to give up as he closed in on his first arrest - despite having a six-inch branch stuck in his eye after falling during the chase.
It was only when the arrested man turned to him and said: "Mate, you've got to go to hospital," that he realised the horrific extent of his injuries. Pc Nash, who had only been in the force for six days, had slipped on a muddy lawn and slid head-first into a bush, skewering his left eye on the end of one of the branches.
The branch snapped off with one end stuck in Pc's Nash's eye. But, oblivious to the pain, he continued the chase.
Pc Nash, aged 25, from Droylsden, Greater Manchester, said: "I had run across some grass to cut him off just as he got to a fence", he said. "I drew my baton just as I got there. The weather was horrible. It was dark, cold and raining. The grass was boggy and I slipped.
"I was really motoring, really running and I slid into a shrub and I had a ringing in my left ear. I thought I'd hit my baton as I fell. He was still trying to get over the fence and I grabbed his ankle.
"He kept referring to my face and I said `that doesn't matter - come on'. I just thought I'd given myself a black eye.
"Somebody said `get an ambulance quick - he's got something in his eye'. I wondered whether he was talking about me.
"I looked across with my right eye and that's when I noticed a stick coming out of my left eye. I thought `what the heck is that?'
His shocked colleagues immediately took him to Fairfield Hospital in Bury in their patrol car. He later had three hours of surgery at Blackburn Royal Hospital to remove the stick.
It had pierced his eye-lid, smashed a cheek-bone, forced ...
