The picture shows Frosty Bison by Laura Heiden, age 55, from Grayslake, USA. It was taken in Yellowstone, Wyoming. She said: "We were touring the west side of the Park. It was a very cold sunrise, the coldest of the week so far. It was near zero degrees Fahrenheit. We came around the corner in our snow coach and saw this magnificent bison just sauntering down the road as if they owned the Park and they do! Keeping the required distance from him/her we hopped out, grabbed some photos, and quickly got back in the vehicle and watched as she/he walked about five feet right past us. It was as if we were not even there. It certainly added to the ghost-like event."The 26 finalists for this year's Weather Photographer of the Year have been announced and the public are being invited to vote for their favourite. The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS), which celebrates its 170th birthday this year, in association with AccuWeather, has put the shortlisted pictures on their website and people can visit photocrowd.com/wpotyvote to vote until September 25.The popular competition, which is now in its fifth year, has attracted entries from around the world.

The picture shows El ChaltZn taken by Francisco Javier Negroni Rodriguez, aged 45, in Argentina. He said: 'An hour before taking this photograph I was walking along the trails that surround the beautiful rock formation known as El ChaltZn in Argentina, the day was very cloudy, apparently luck was not with me on this adventure. The climate in Patagonia is somewhat unpredictable, it changes every moment and the wind is so strong that it quickly moves the clouds. Only at times could the figure of the massif be distinguished. My hope was focused on getting to a place from where I could wait very patiently for the weather to help me and give me a window of good weather at sunset to be able to take some photos, but nature surprised me. It was incredible! Only for a moment the clouds allowed me to see El ChaltZn and to my surprise there was a spectacular and brilliant lenticular cloud with a beautiful and perfect figure that I had never seen. Photographer Malte Brandenburg said:"Initially these buildings meant a vast improvement of life for the middle class in Berlin. They provided more space and were affordable, didn?t cost much in construction and were built quickly. However with time, these buildings were not really needed anymore by their initial inhabitants. Suddenly they turned into a burden for the city as the urban lifestyle of its citizens changed and efficient and cheap housing was not of real interest anymore for the masses."

A photographer has captured a series of charming photos of Berlin's post-war housing apartment blocks.
The pictures show perfectly symmetrical concrete apartment blocks, pictured against blue skies.
Copenhagen-based photographer Malte Brandenburg, 37, travelled back to his birth place (Berlin) to capture the photo series 'Stacked'.
Malte said: "I wanted to highlight the architectural structure of these buildings rather than their social context. I think by making them comparable you notice that they all have something in common, but that the architects still maintained their individual small little features.
"For me they are not ugly leftovers from past decades in a city?s skyline. I find they tell a story, which is still relevant today, namely the tension between engineering and the human element.

In Columbia the cocaine business has become less important than in past years. It is the land now, with its enormous riches hidden in the subsoil, and the consequent lucrative management of extraction, inflaming economic interest and violence.
The gold fever has returned, supported by the exchange rate of 1111 dollars per ounce, almost 32 euros per gram.
Photojournalist Erberto Zani spent time with workers toiling in a trecherous illegal mine in Carrizal.
Witnessing nightmare conditions in cramped and poorly ventilated spaces, up to 500m under the earth, he experienced the dread of rapidly rising waters when an old pump at surface level broke down and the tunnels began began to flood.

Palestinian protesters stand atop a section of Israel's controversial barrier that separates the West Bank town of Abu Dis from Jerusalem November 17, 2014. A Palestinian bus driver was found hanged inside his vehicle on Monday, an incident Israeli police described as a suicide but which the driver's family said they believed was an attack. Israeli police said the evidence suggested al-Ramouni had committed suicide, but rumors quickly spread in the Palestinian media that he had been killed by Jewish assailants, fuelling tension and violence in the divided city.

These amazing pictures show a wildlife photographer having a very close encounter with a curious polar bear.
Kyriakos Kaziras was lucky to escape with only a few jaw-dropping images when a male adult swiped at him through a ship's porthole.
He took the picture series from a boat on the sea ice north of Spitsbergen.
Kyriakos explains: "He not only came up to our boat, but remained more than two hours to walk around it. He tried with a lot of perseverance to get on the boat. He poked his nose through all reachable holes and portholes.
"It was at that moment, he tried to reach me and grab my camera. My camera sunshield did not resist."

Abam peering out of his cage after being released by Veterinarian Meriam. Abam quickly ran out and climbed the nearest tree as high as he could and immediately constructed a nest.
Orangutan Takes First Steps To Freedom
In these heart-warming images a young, male orangutan takes its first steps into the wild - claiming back its freedom after years of being kept as an illegal pet by oil palm plantation workers.
The orangutan called Abam is nine-years-old and was released into Bukit Batikap Conservation Forest earlier this month by his rescuers and carers from Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation.
The release team claim it only took him seconds to adjust to his new surroundings as he bounded out of his cage climbing the nearest tree to build a nest.
Abam was rescued by BOS Foundation in 2007 when he was four-years-old. He had badly injured hands and was taken to Nyaru Menteng rehabilitation centre in the Indonesian part of Borneo to be treated. Sadly he had to have his knuckles amputated from three of his fingers on his left hand, as well as his middle finger and ring finger on his right hand.
Seven other orangutans were also released alongside Abam, including Sempung who was rescued in 2005 from a rubber plantation owned by the local community in central Kalimantan; Sumbing, Jessica, Mama Ebol and her baby who were rescued from oil palm plantations were also released.
As well as Maradona who was confiscated from villagers in 2006 and needed intensive medical care after being tied up tightly with ropes causing serious injuries on his arms; Onceng who was rescued from a local community in 2011, the villagers had her trapped in a wooden cage for two months. They claimed to have let her out once but because she had climbed a tree and made a nest she was never let out again.
