As the sedative takes effect, a large female black rhino wedges herself into a sickle bush. It's important to protect the rhino's eyes during an immobilisation, so applying a soft blindfold is the first priority. Prince Harry is in charge of this delicate procedure. He has to move carefully as rhinos may take a swipe at any movement near their heads

The reason for the herd's panic is seen...a huge crocodile has emerged suddenly from the water weed and managed to grab hold of the baby elephant 's trunk. The baby tries it's best to pull away, shrieking in fright., This is the shocking moment a crocodile grabbed the trunk of a baby elephant, hoping to get a hefty lunch.
The image was captured by amateur photographer Johan Opperman, who was photographing a herd of elephants crossing a swamp.
Amazing Moment a Crocodile Grabs Baby Elephant's Trunk, Kruger National Park, South Africa
This baby elephant was given a huge shock when a camouflaged crocodile gave a tug on its trunk while it went for a drink.

The extraordinary scene was captured by amateur photographer Johan Opperman while taking pictures of a family of African Bush elephants grazing by a water hole and cooling down.

Under the watchful eye of its family, the young elephant headed to the edge of the waterhole to grab itself a drink.

However, in what has been described by experts as very rare behaviour, a crocodile pounced on the youngster, hoping for a kill by locking its jaws around its trunk.

Hearing the baby's distress calls, the herd of elephants, which are known for being very protective of their young, immediately came to its rescue, scaring off the croc by trumpeting and stamping around.

After the attack the herd stayed with the youngster.

When the baby had been tended to and the herd decided all was well, they crossed the dam together, just metres from where the crocodile had been hiding.

The scene was reminiscent of the famous Rudyard Kipling tale, 'The Elephant's Child', which tells the story of how the elephant got a long trunk when it was pulled on by a crocodile.

Two-Headed Snake Eats its First Meal
Rare, two-headed albino snake eats for the first time.

A few days before Halloween a two-headed albino Honduran milk snake hatched at conservation group: Sunshine Serpents.

Even with the odds of a two-headed or bicephalic snake being born are 10,000 to one the snake has taken its first meal - a baby mouse.

The right head of the snake ate the entirety of the small mouse soon after it was offered with the extra head on hand to watch.

As with most baby snakes the two-headed serpent fed after shedding its skin for the first time.

Owner of Sunshine Serpents and University of Central Florida biologist Daniel Parker said: "After hatching, baby snakes usually have a good reserve of yolk to last them for a while.

"Honduran milk snakes usually shed their skins around two weeks after hatching and are ready to feed after that."

Two days after eating for the first time the snake went through the digestive process, a significant event, as it suggests the snake is functioning normally.

"We were not exactly sure what was going on with this snake on the inside, but now we have a better idea," said Parker.

Sunshine Serpents have decided to sell the two-headed snake and offers above GBP 16,000 ($25,000) will be considered.

Parker explained: "This is such a special animal that I would love to see it on display at a zoo, aquarium, or serpentarium where lots of people can learn from it.

"In my opinion, this is the most beautiful two-headed snake to ever exist, not only is it insanely colourful, but the two heads are perfectly formed.

Sunshine Serpents deal with all kinds of reptiles and amphibians. They guide wildlife tours, lead educational presentations; cons...

A building so completely gutted by fire and artillery that it's original purpose is unclear. Mariupol, southeastern Ukraine. Many people are trying to flee the city on foot into territory controlled by the Donetsk People's Republic. More than 200,000 people are trapped in the strategic city described by those who managed to escape as a "freezing hellscape riddled with dead bodies and destroyed buildings," Human Rights Watch said.

Cleanup crews began cleaning up the damage from a major oil spill off the Orange County coast that left crude spoiling beaches, killing fish and birds and threatening local wetlands. The oil slick is believed to have originated from a pipeline leak, pouring 126,000 gallons into the coastal waters and seeping into the Talbert Marsh as lifeguards deployed floating barriers known as booms to try to stop further incursion, said Jennifer Carey, Huntington Beach city spokesperson. At sunrise Sunday, oil was on the sand in some parts of Huntington Beach with slicks visible in the ocean as well. "We classify this as a major spill, and it is a high priority to us to mitigate any environmental concerns," Carey said. "It's all hands on deck." (Allen J. Schaben / Los Angeles Times)
