A realistic robotic puppy created with help from the animatronics experts behind The Muppets TV series and films, is set to become a companion for elderly people with dementia..It’s long been known that animal companionship can help the elderly maintain their mental and physical well-being, but it’s not always practical for them to take care of a real animal. US robotics company Tombot hope to provide seniors with the cuts, tale-wagging Labrador-like pup which responds to touch and stroking. It sits on its own cushion and a voice recognition system listens to commands and responds accordingly. It runs by battery said to have “all-day” life and plugs in overnight for recharging.Tombolt collaborated with Hollywood animatronics experts at Muppet and Sesame Street creator Jim Henson’s Creature Shop to get the look just right. The idea was to make it look like a real Labrador retriever puppy. Its looks are not only very realistic, but so is the way it feels, and its behaviour.Research shows that those who suffer from dementia can see a decrease in behavioral and psychological symptoms when they form an emotional attachment to pets. Being emotionally attached also means being socially engaged. Having a pet , real or robotic, is shown to relieve stress and loneliness, and reduce anxiety.

The 5-week-old puppy
Puppy found abandoned on Christmas Day, Bradford, UK - 03 Jan 2019
A five-week-old puppy was dumped to die in an alleyway on CHRISTMAS DAY by heartless owners. Pet owners are repeatedly reminded that "a dog is for life, not just for Christmas", but the tiny merle-coloured puppy was found in a cardboard box in an alley in Bradford in Yorkshire on December 25. The RSPCA has launched an investigation after the paralysed puppy was found in Carr Street by a member of the public, who looked after it at home before contacting the RSPCA on Thursday (Dec 27). Inspector Dave Holgate later collected the dog and took him to a nearby vet. "Unfortunately, the little crossbreed puppy was in a terrible state," he said. "He was collapsed at the rear and was dragging his back legs.
