Glen Matlock's Area guide to Maida Vale.
I've been here since '77. I was born in Kensal Green, less than a mile from where I live now. I once came to Maida Vale to play football and I thought: I like it around here. By
happenstance, I ended up with some people who had a place I could stay at, I started earning a bit of money and then I got a flat around this way. It's a bit jammy, really. There's lots to recommend about Maida Vale. The streets are wide. Warwick Avenue is one of the only streets in London where there's a pavement down the middle of the road. I always make a point of walking down it. In a way, even though it's pretty central to London, Maida Vale is a bit of a backwater - it's a quiet oasis. I've built up a lot of friendships over the years. It's the Maida Vale triangle: once you're in, you never get out.

Why I live in Kings Cross: actor Ralf Little on a new life in his 'extraordinary' London neighbourhood
The Death in Paradise and Royle Family star on leaving his long-time home in west London for this 'magnet of art and culture' - just don't ask him to pick a gym.
Twenty years ago I did a promotional shoot in Kings Cross for the first series of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps. We were after somewhere industrial, grey and a bit run down, so we ended up at the canal. Back then, it felt like a wasteland.
Now it’s this extraordinary, vibrant area. I moved to a flat here last year after 17 years in the same Victorian three-bed in Shepherd's Bush. I spend half the year in the Carribean filming Death in Paradise, so decided it was time to live more minimally.
I'm right in the middle of this cultural centre and couldn’t be happier.

Tinie Tempah's insider tips on the best places to shop, eat and explore around Blackheath and Greenwich
Tinie Tempah in Blackheath where he used to imagine living one day.
Rapper and property investor Tinie Tempah tells what his childhood stomping ground has in common with Bel-Air.
Within the Greenwich borough, Blackheath is the area that's closest and most accessible to the rest of south London and the City. The borough is big and all of it was pretty much my stomping ground growing up.
Blackheath is the more aspirational side of the borough with large detached houses, a common parallel with Greenwich Park and a nice village. Then thereÕs a private estate thatÕs tucked away.
I used to drive down there with my friends and just look at all the houses and imagine myself living in one of them. Now I have a recording studio in the area.
