RONNIE BIGGS APOLOGISES FOR GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY

Ronnie Biggs has finally said sorry for his part in the Great Train Robbery.

For 45 years he has never shown any remorse, but now in his dying days he has finally faced up to his crime.

He said: "I'm sorry for what happened there. I want to go back there one last time. I need to find my own peace."

Critics have always pointed out that Ronnie failed to show remorse for the death of train driver Jack Mills, who died seven years after the crime.

However, the long-term effect of the attack on Mr Mills has been hotly disputed.

Biggs' apology came as he posed for the first pictures taken at the care home where he now lives.

He will spend the rest of his days at this home after being released from jail on compassionate grounds.

Unable to talk, he painstakingly spelled out letters on a word board revealing that, before he dies, he wants to revisit the railway line in Buckinghamshire where the armed robbers stole GBP 2m - worth GBP 40m today - from a Glasgow-London mail train.

The 80 year-old's spirits have been lifted since he settled into the nursing home in Barnet, North London.

For while his body is weak, his sense of humour is in tact.

He has started playing Monopoly - keeping his Get Out of Jail Free card close to his chest.

Ironically it was Monopoly that help lead to his arrest in 1963 after his fingerprints were found on a board game at the farm house hideaway used by the gang following the hijack.

But despite his cheery spirits Biggs is playing a game he cannot win.

Son Michael, 35, who campaigned tirelessly for his release, explained: "There's no doubt that dad could die any minute. That's t...

Mop-wielding shopkeeper fends off three armed robbers, Rushden, Northants, Britain - 24 Jan 2012
*full story: http://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/ewgr* A brave shopkeeper fought off three armed robbers using only a mop. Dinesh Gorania, 50 and his son Kishan, 21, were shutting up their shop when a masked man with a crow bar tried to enter and demanded money. But Mr Gorania, who had been cleaning the floor, hit the man with his mop, forcing him backwards. The man, who was swearing and threatening the pair, tried two more times to get into The Premier Store in Rushden, Northants, but Mr Gorania repeatedly hit him with the mop. Kishan then grabbed a hockey stick to help keep the man away. Two other masked men with crowbars then got out of a car and threw a metal bar at Mr Gorania, which he managed to block with his arm. The defeated men then got back in the car empty-handed, but smashed the shop window and the windows of Mr Gorania's van and Kishan's car as they left.

8th August 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of what has become known as the Great Train Robbery. As the date draws closer a fresh bid has been launched to clear the name of one of the accused. The robbery saw a 15-strong gang of men stole steal GBP 2.6 million after holding up an overnight Glasgow to London mail train at Bridego Railway Bridge in Buckinghamshire on 8th August 1963. 12 men were eventually jailed for their parts in the daring heist and jailed for a variety of lengths. Famously, Ronnie Biggs was sentenced to 30 years and served 15 months before going on the run. He eventually voluntarily returned to Britain in 2001. While Ronnie has become infamous for his part in the robbery someone whose name isn't quite as well known is Bill Boal. Boal died in prison after being found guilty of being part of the gang but always protested that he was innocent.
