  • Robins territorial fight by Olivier Jarry-Lacombe

Robins territorial fight by Olivier Jarry-Lacombe
A pair of birds are spotted in an aerial battle as they fight over territory. The robins were fighting for dominance in Limoges, France.

Olivier Jarry-Lacombe who took the photos in his backgarden said, "Robins are among the most territorial passerines in our gardens. They can fight and even injure each other to maintain or acquire a territory. Generally, the intruder doesn't fight and prefers to flee. But on this occasion, a brief encounter was witnessed between the pair before one of the robins preferred to flee after being heckled by his opponent!" (FOTO: DUKAS/SOLENT NEWS)

    Border area market
    Melilla, Spain, January 15, 2011
The daily market at the border zone in the Spanish enclave of Melilla. Every day about 15000 Moroccan citizens enter Melilla to buy tax free goods, and import these into Morocco. Melilla became part of Spain in 1580, and is, along with the Spanish city of Ceuta, the only landborder between the EU and the African continent. A giant fence called La Valla and a range of border security measures closes the Spanish city off from Moroccan soil, to stop the influx of African immigrants. Throughout 2010 only 1000 new immigrants arrived in Melilla. (FOTO:DUKAS/REPORTERS)
