Nothing is off table to get Ukraine into EU, says president of bloc's parliament, Roberta Metsola.
Roberta Metsola warns 'pushing the can down the road' will fuel nationalism and the far right.
The European Union must begin a major wave of change to prepare for the arrival of Ukraine as a member state, the leader of its parliament has said, with "nothing off the table", including removing trade tariffs and giving Kyiv access to internal markets before full membership.
Speaking exclusively to the Guardian, Roberta Metsola, an MEP from Malta who became the European parliament's youngest ever president last year, said she expected member states to begin formal negotiations with Ukraine as soon as December.

FEATURE - Malteser-Hund Coco erinnert ans Hände- bzw. Pfotenwaschen
It looks like Coco the Maltese dog has heard about the Coronavirus, cleverly recognising the importance of clean paws!
Maltese Coco, lives with her sister, Cici, aka “the troublemaker”, in Scottsdale, Arizona, and has become something a hit on instagram – not just because she’s extremely cute – but also because she prefers to stand on her hind legs and bear her belly.
And, as if that weren’t enough to make you fall in love with her, Coco (along with her sister) is also a registered therapy dog working weekly at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
Owner Katee Lauchner says: “The best part of being a therapy dog is seeing the kids’ faces light up with joy when we walk into their rooms; online or in person our goal in life is to spread love and joy.”
About Coco:
I was born on March 21, 2017. My mom started my Instagram in May of 2017. Since that time, we have accumulated more than 223,000 followers from all over the world. We are a popular creator on TikTok with over 1.1 million followers. I'm famous for my pose of, "Sit Pretty" which most people say Paws Up. I love the camera and I'm super food motivated that's how my parents got me to learn so many fun tricks.

UK Bureau Director of Reporters Without Borders, Rebecca Vincent lays a laurel at a vigil outside the Malta High Commission to mark the six month anniversary of the murder of Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. It is believed she was murdered due to her work as an investigative journalist. Demonstrators held bay leaves, as the name 'Daphne' is the personification of the laurel in Greek mythology.

Alessandra Ambrosio steps out with her dyed green pooch
Brentwood, CA - Brazilian bombshell Alessandra Ambrosio was spotted running errands and shopping at the Brentwood Country Mart on Thursday morning, accompanied by her adorable pet Maltese. The Victoria's Secret Angel looked chic and simple in a striped tee, girlfriend jeans, white sneakers and an Hermes belt as she led her pooch on the leash. Her fluffy companion's white fur was even dyed a faded green! Alessandra has been known to color her pup's fur before, running into serious criticism in the press a few years back when she dyed her dog pink and purple.

Pet Cruises For Pampered Pooches
Pet Cruises For Pampered Pooches
It's a 'ruff' life for Singapore's spoilt pets.
Boat owner Joe Howe, 48, has started taking pets and their owners out on cruises.
Based in Singapore, the retired broker and his business partner Max Chan lead two cruises a week to the islands and beaches in the northern part of the country.
His 26-foot (7.8-metre) motor catamaran, which comes with a swimming deck, has a cleaning station and provides life jackets for dogs.
Pet Cruise takes their guests out for a short two hour ride on a catamaran, which they can chose to charter the entire boat or book on an individual basis.
It costs S$400, which is approximately GBP 200, to book the boat for two hours.
Pet owners have even brought on board tortoises.
Launched last May Pet Cruise has become very popular and Mr Howe said: "Pet owners find this activity an excellent way to spend some quality time with their pets, family and friends.
"Young couples are having pets before they have children, it's a stand-in, and at times even a replacement (for kids)."
