Nepal's Kathmandu Durbar Square Gets Decked Up For Upcoming Indra Jatra Festival
Nepali workers change the sacred clothes at various temples in the premises of Kathmandu Durbar Square in Kathmandu, Nepal, on September 3, 2025, as the nation prepares for the Indra Jatra festival. The fourth day of the waxing moon in the month of Bhadra, according to the lunar calendar, marks the Indra Jatra, which has been observed for a long time. Devraj Indra, the God of rains and good harvest, is worshipped for eight days, starting with the erection of a sacred wooden pole, ''Lingo,'' at the premises of Kathmandu Durbar Square. The fourth day of the festival features singing, mask dances, and other rituals. The procession in Kathmandu Durbar Square has the living goddess Kumari as the center of attraction, as Goddess Kumari makes a public appearance on this particular day. Legends say that the Indra Jatra festival is observed to celebrate the victory of the gods over the demons to release Jayanta, the son of Lord Indra. It is believed that Lord Indra comes to earth to collect white flowers for his mother but is caught by the locals (The Newars) of the Kathmandu valley and kept bound. After Lord Indra's mother, Jayanta, comes and discloses his identity, a procession takes place, which continues to this day. Indra, the god of rain, is worshipped in this festival primarily celebrated by the Newar communities following both Hinduism and Buddhism. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto) -

Daily Life In Kashmir, India
A man looks at a billboard featuring a portrait of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on June 17, 2025. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in an interview with ABC News, states that killing Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei ends the conflict between the two countries. He also defends Israel's ongoing military actions against Iran, adding they aim to end the conflict rather than escalate it. His remarks come after reports that US President Donald Trump previously vetoes an Israeli plan to target Iran's Supreme Leader, fearing it could worsen the conflict. Israel continues its strikes across Iran since June 13, targeting nuclear and energy facilities, and a state television building in Tehran. In response, Iran launches waves of retaliatory missiles and drones toward Israel. (Photo by Firdous Nazir/NurPhoto) -

Image grab from footage released by Russian Defense Ministry on Tuesday February 15, 2022 shows soldiers from units of the Southern Military District load onto railway transport for departure to their garrison bases (points of permanent deployment) in an undisclosed location after completing drills at the Ukraine border. The Russian Defense Ministry said that while large-scale drills across the country continued, some units of the Southern and Western military districts had completed their exercises and started returning to base. The movements came as Russia signaled Monday (February 14) it is ready to keep diplomatic talks with the West about security concerns that led to the current Ukraine crisis, offering hope to resolve the situation within the diplomatic route as the U.S. and Europe increasingly fear an imminent invasion by Russia amid increased military buildup in Ukraine. More than 100,000 Russian troops have massed near the Ukrainian border. Russia denies planning an attack or invasion but says it could take unspecified military action if a list of demands is not met, including a promise from NATO never to admit Ukraine.
