FEATURE - Paar gestaltet Wohnung im Sowjet-Stil nach "Chernobyl"-TV-Serie
A young couple have re-designed their apartment to Soviet style after watching HBO miniseries Chernobyl.
Linas and his girlfriend Rasa live in their apartment in Vilnius, Lithuania in a neighbourhood where the show was filmed - but only realised when they were watching the series on TV and spotted their balcony.
The one-bedroom and one-bathroom property originally belonged to the grandparents of Linas for over 40 years, but since their passing very little has changed inside according to the couple.
"Everything in the flat - the interior, cutlery, even the bedding are all exactly the same as shown in the TV series.' explains Rasa.
"It was so surreal to watch the show from home. The experience was so immersive, we felt like we travelled back in time."
After finishing the show the couple decided to change 'modern' parts of the flat and swap them for authentic Soviet era items, even swapping their brand new fridge for an old Russian one.
After posting about their home on Instagram, a local journalist interviewed the couple which generated interest and locals then began gifting Soviet items they no longer needed - from curtains, cups, books and even furniture.
The apartment also has original magazines, vinyls and appliances, such as a working Lithuanian potato grating machine which won a design award in the USSR and was exhibited in the national gallery.
"The bathroom was recently refurbished and modern technology like WiFi and kitchen appliances were installed but they are hidden out of sight for you to experience the life of the Soviet citizen with Western comfort.' says Rasa.
"Still, you have to wash your clothes in an old-school Russian washing machine and store your food in a Soviet fridge!"
The couple have started listing the apartment on Airbnb to give fans of the TV show the full experience. You can find the Airbnb listing here: https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/35625245

Grenfell Second Anniversary
Second Anniversary vigil held close to Grenfell Tower here in the shadow of Notting Hill Methodist church.
A bright green light was beamed onto the high rise to mark 24 months since the devastating fire, which left 72 people dead on June 14, 2017. It was the most deadly domestic blaze since the Second World War. For just over a year the building has stood surrounded by white sheeting, with banners featuring the green Grenfell heart and the words "forever in our hearts" emblazoned across the four highest floors.

Grenfell Tower projected message
A building close to Grenfell Tower had a message projected onto it warning of dangers at that building. Grenfell campaigners have urged the UKÕs next prime minister to be Òon the right side of historyÓ as safety warnings were beamed onto towers. Demonstrators are calling for the cladding, which has been blamed for the rapid spread of the deadly fire in west London, to be removed from homes and for safety problems to be dealt with faster.

'This building has no sprinklers': Grenfell United's 12-storey-high guerrilla messages. Group beams huge projections on high-rises to highlight fire safety crisis.
Tower blocks across England have been lit up in a series of guerrilla projections highlighting a national fire safety crisis that appears to be getting worse rather than better on the eve of the second anniversary of the Grenfell disaster. Pictured: Manchester: Grenfell United project a message onto the NV Buildings, a block of luxury apartments at Salford Quays, highlighting the continued use of cladding on many high rise tower blocks two years after the Grenfell fire in London.
Message reads: “ Two years after Grenfell and this building is still covered in dangerous cladding.”

A projection on Frinstead House in west London on the eve of the second anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire.
