    P-P-P-P-PROTECT A PENGUIN

These cute chicks have been hand-reared by staff at an animal park on the Isle of Wight after fears were raised that their clumsy parents could squash them.

In previous years penguin chicks from the Seaview Flamingo Park have been killed after their loving, but careless, parents flattened them while sitting on them to keep them warm.

Due to this, this year's brood of Humboldt chicks were taken to safety away from their heavy parents; they now enjoy the warmth of an office and are being hand-fed a liquidised fish mix three times a day.

The Humboldt chicks range from two days to three weeks old and still have their soft, velvety grey feathers.

Humboldt penguins are one of the most endangered of the penguin species. Since most healthy adult penguins fear few land predators they have little natural fear of people, which has made them an easy target for human hunters and egg gatherers.

FLAMINGOS TAKING OFF IN THE LAGUNA RIO LAGARTOS, YUCATAN PENINSULA, MEXICO
The name FLAMINGO comes from the Spanish word flamenco - the fiery music of Andalusia. It aptly describes the breathtaking sight of a soaring, vivid pink cloud as hundreds of flamingos take off from the water. In the LAGUNA RIO LAGARTOS, on the northerly point of the Yucatán peninsula, up to 30,000 flamingos nest at the start of the rainy season, from June to August. Yucatán is home to the world's largest flamingo colony. (FOTO: DUKAS/MICHAEL FRIEDEL)

A photographer captured a series of images of two hyenas chasing flamingos in Lake Nakuru, Kenya.

In the pictures, the hyenas can be seen stalking, and catching, their prey.

Lake Nakuru is home to millions of flamingos, however in recent months the bird-population has sadly been under threat, due to contamintated water.

The pictures, taken by British photographer Elliott Neep, were taken a few years ago and have captured the Lake at a time before the flamingos population was threatened.

Photographer Elliott Neep, 41, said: "Just a few hundred metres away, I could see a pair of hyenas ambling towards us. They scampered about on the beach, chasing and tap-tackling. Was it a ploy? Did this behaviour lull the birds into a false sense of security? The hyenas continued to approach and subtly veered towards the water's edge.

    GOOSE-STEPPING

Although no relation to the goose, these flamingos of the London zoo -- heads erect, legs held high -- give the impression of indulging in a hearty goose-step in this picture, as they march out the sleeping shed in their winter quarters.
In summer residence on the three Island Pond, they have been moved to new quarters in order to protect their legs against frost.
