    Image of a soldier from Legion Troop, C Sqn Light Dragoons taking part in a battlegroup squad competition in Poland, whilst deployed on Op CABRIT.

    The Squad Comp took place in memory of fallen soldiers from each of the competing nations. Legion Troop won the overall competition, beating 15 other teams.

    Soldiers from C Squadron, Light Dragoons, are in Poland on OPERATION CABRIT, as part of NATO's Enhanced Forward Presence.

    Around 140 soldiers from the Light Dragoons and attachments from other parts of the armed forces make up 'Legion Troop' - the reconnaissance asset of Battlegroup Poland. They are working alongside soldiers from the U.S, Romania, Croatia and Poland.

    Spectators crowded into every vantage point around the cricket club in Hong Kong to watch a ceremonial parade of the 40 commando, R.M. Taking the salute during the March past with fixed bayonets was the governor, Sir Alexander Grantham. The 40 commando were in the June, 1942 Dieppe Raid . They were among the first ashore in Sicily and Italy, and saw active service in Burma in 1944.

    Chinese mothers, babies slung from their backs, sign up to get their food - served by army volunteers - at the annual children's party given by the Hong Kong society for the protection of children. Besides helping with the food, army men took children for Jeep and pony rides. Nearly 1,500 mothers and children were given a hot meal, entertainment, and gifts.

    The Battalion, away since October, 1925, will now have quarters in Blenheim barracks (named after the principal battle not of the regiments) at Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk.
    The Queen is Colonel-in-chief of the regiment .

    ARTILLERYMEN WITH THE FLEET

    With a party of 14 of officers and men of the Royal artillery aboard, the' Vanguard', Britain's only operational battleship, has returned to Portland from a training crew of the home fleet in Gibraltar.
    The Royal artillery men, who had an extra thrill when the warship - homeward bound - went to help a French ship in distress in the Bay of Biscay, accompanied the ' Vanguard ' at the invitation of captain G.V. Gladstone.
    The voyage of the artillery men follows the recent affiliations between the ship and the Royal Regiment of Artillery.
    the party was chosen from units in southern England.

    NORTHUMBERLANDS ARE HOME

    The 1st Battalion Royal Northumberland Fusiliers disembarked at Southampton today after 18 years' service abroad.
    The Battalion had returned from Gibraltar in the 17,362 ton Empire Orwell, Britain's largest troopship, which had 1,400 troops and services' families aboard.

    At an age when most boys are still playing with toy weapons this youth full soldier of the Chinese Communist army is serving in the garrison at Sham Chun, a newly-occupied large town just north of the point where the canton- Kowloon railway crosses the front line into Hong Kong colonial territory.
    Many of the communist newcomers appeared to be no more than fourteen or fifteen years of age, like this boy, may be well armed, with pistol and grenade at the belt.

    NATIONALISTS COLONEL CHANGES SIDES AS COMMUNISTS REACH HONG KONG BORDER .

    Pictured here is ShamChun , a large town just north of the point where the canton-Kowloon railway crosses the frontier into Hong Kong colonial territory, and Colonel Mak Hon-Fai, commander of a Chinese nationalists armoured train who was entrusted with a plan to cover the withdrawal of nationalist forces as the communists advanced to the Hong Kong border, and the destruction of bridges.
    Having made contact with the Communists, however, Colonel Max decided to keep the train at ShamChun and himself throw in his lot with the Communist peoples liberation Army'. He became militarily commander of Shumchun Japan under the new regime.
    The Colonel, still a young man, was born in France and went to China in 1937 to attend the Whampoa military Academy.

    Assembled in the square for 500 pre-service cadets of the Navy, Army and Air Force and the massed bands of the lifeguards and Royal horse guards.
    The savings drive, first since 1945, is intended to draw attention to workers' savings groups and recruit more regular savers.

    MONTY OPENS BALLROOM MEMORIAL TO EIGHTH ARMY

    Field-Marshal Viscount Montgomery of Alamein recalled his most famous campaign when today he unveiled a plaque at the victory (Ex Services) club in Seymour Street, Marble Arch, London. He was taking part in the opening ceremony of the clubs ballroom, which is the gift of the Eighth Army and is its war memorial in London.
    Field-Marshal Montgomery - now Western Union's commander-in-chief - commanded Britain's eighth Army in its successful offensive at El Alamein in October 1942.
    today is Alamein day, commemorating the battle which started the eighth Army on its historic advance across north Africa.

    New uniforms for the Women's Royal Army Corps and the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps were shown at Whitehall Place, London today

    Picture Shows: The new uniforms for Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps, designed by Norman Hartnell, the Queen's dressmaker.
    At left is the Subaltern's non-ceremonial dress and on the right the ceremonial uniform for an officer of field rank.
    The traditional gray and scarlet have been retained although the grey is a darker shade. Jacket and skirt are in barathea.
