'The sea came in and took it all away': the Colombian beach resort facing a 'public calamity.' Palomino's receding coastline.
In the past 10 years, Palomino's coastline has receded between 47 and 50 metres, threatening the livelihoods of restaurateurs, hoteliers and all those who work in the resort.
The entire coastline of Palomino, a laid-back beach town, is on the frontline of Colombia's battle against erosion.
Storms and the relentless battering by the waves naturally contribute to the problem, but have been made worse by the rising sea level, a consequence of the climate crisis.

'Very afraid': Colombian human rights lawyer Adil Melendez Marquez loses security after winning prize
Adil Melendez Marquez received call from bodyguards 20 minutes after Sir Henry Brooke award from Alliance for Lawyers at Risk.
Melendez is no stranger to death threats, because of his work on cases related to Colombia's decades-long civil war, environmental justice and corruption, but things have just got a lot scarier. With bitter irony, 20 minutes after receiving the Sir Henry Brooke award from the Alliance for Lawyers at Risk, his bodyguards called him to say that they had been stood down from, leaving him without protection.

A girl walks precariously along one of the improvised barriers set up by local business owners on the beach at Palomino.

A group of tourists clamber over a makeshift protective wall, built by local business owners to protect the hotels and restaurants of Palomino from coastal erosion.

Barriers and walls erected by beachfront restaurants and hotels along the shores of Palomino are progressively affected by the coastal erosion and rising tides.

Davinson Sanchez
Davinson Sanchez at the Riverside Sports Centre. Sanchez has always been impervious to criticism, even when it comes from one of the most famous managers in the world. Jose Mourinho’s ideas tend to stick and Sanchez has never quite been free of the suggestion he is uncomfortable on the ball since the Portuguese revealed Manchester United targeted the then-Ajax defender in their Europa League Final win in 2017. Reminded of Mourinho’s remark, Sanchez laughed. “A different opinion!” he told Standard Sport.
