This is the dramatic moment a gang of moped thugs armed with a sledgehammer targeted a luxury jewellers in Knightsbridge. The armed gang leapt onto three mopeds following the raid at Boodles jewellers in Basil Street this morning. Smoke from a security alarm poured out into the street as the suspects, said to be armed with a machete as well as the sledgehammer, sped away from the scene shortly after 10.30am. The robbers - six in total on three scooters - carried out the raid and were in and out in under a minute.

Kya Sands / Bloubosrand. Among leafy trees, shady street corners and swimming pools, you find the middle-class suburb of Bloubosrand. A quick search on Property24 shows that many houses are worth over 1 million rand. Across the street, tin shacks with car tires on their roof extend into the distance. If you look even closer, the main thoroughfares in Kya Sands are actually drainages for the black, filthy water emanating from the nearby creek
Unequal Scenes: Segregation of urban spaces in South Africa - 2016

A photographer has captured a stark view of the urban economic segregation in South Africa.
Johnny Miller has used drone technology to take an aerial view of the divide in standards of living between the poor and the wealthy.
His work highlights how the manicured suburbs of the middle classes sit only several hundred metres away from the ramshackle shanty towns of the poorest members of society.
An example include a God's-eye view of the picturesque suburbs looking out onto the glistening waters of Lake Michelle, 20km from Cape Town?s city centre. Separated by wetlands, a guard house and an electrified fence, the 38,000 inhabitants of the neighbouring tin shacks of Masiphumelele are a world away.

A man jumps the Glastonbury Festival wall without a ticket by flying into the festival in a light propellor-driven motorised aircraft, landing in next to the Stone Circle at 9pm to cheers from the watching festival goers. Festival officials were quick on scene confiscating the aircraft but allowing the man to walk free. Asked for a quote by the photographer the man said 'I need a beer'.

April - Quick on the paw
Maverick Meerkats calendar 2015 - 14 Nov 2014
Hold onto your hats - the meerkat cowboys have ridden into town.
A hilarious new calendar shows the popular critters in the Wild West doing their best Clint Eastwood impressions.
Iconic Spaghetti Western-style scenes on display include a duel on a dusty main street, a meerkat on a bucking bronco and cowboys looking worse for wear in a saloon.
There is also a hapless cowboy the wrong way on a horse and weasel-faced outlaws Lean Mean McGrew and Wild Cat Willy scowling from a wanted poster.
British publishers Maverick Arts snapped a lot of the background scenes at a local stables, but opted for clever computer wizardry to place the meerkats in the scenes.
Maverick MD Steve Bicknell explains: "We love to imagine what adventures mischievous meerkats could get up to. This year we thought we should send them West and see how they handle life on the range."
Maverick Meerkats is priced GBP 9.39 and available at selected retailers or Amazon: http://amzn.to/11ng5Fd

Village of Oymyakon, which is considered to be the coldest permanently inhabited settlement in the world, Russia - Jan 2013
Mandatory Credit: Photo by Amos Chapple / Rex Features (2087439n)
Welcome To The Pole Of Cold
If you thought it was cold where you are at the moment then a visit to the Russian village of Oymyakon might just change your mind.
With the average temperature for January a blisteringly cold -50c it is no wonder the village is the coldest permanently inhabited settlement in the world.
Ironically, Oymyakon actually means "non-freezing water" due to a nearby hot spring.
The village, which is home to around 500 people, was originally a stopover for reindeer herders who would water their flocks from the thermal spring.
Known as the "Pole of Cold", the coldest ever temperature recorded in Oymyakon was a mind numbing -71.2c.
This is the lowest recorded temperature for any permanently inhabited location on Earth and the lowest temperature recorded in the Northern Hemisphere.
Unsurprisingly, locals are hardened to the weather and unlike in other countries - where a flurry of snow beings things grinding to a halt - Oymyakon's solitary school only shuts if temperatures fall below -52C.
The village is located around 750 meters above sea level, which means that the length of a day varies from 3 hours in December to 21 hours in the summer.
And despite its terrible winters, in June, July and August temperatures over 30c are not rare.
There are little modern conveniences in the village - with many buildings still having outdoor toilets - and most people still burn coal and wood for heat.
Oymyakon lies a two day drive from the city of Yakutsk, the regional capital, which has the coldest winter temperatures for any city in the world.

An olive baboon (Papio anubis) that wreaked havoc with a camera trap, leaving it tilted at a 45-degree angle.
Peek-A-Boo: The World Through The Lens Of A Kenyan Camera Trap
You're wandering the plains of Kenya and you spot a mysterious metal box. You wouldn't be able to stop yourself having a quick peek, would you?
That was seemingly the reaction of all creatures great and small when ecology student Blair Roberts placed camera traps in the wildlife-rich region.
The 26-year-old wanted to study the feeding patterns of Thomson gazelle, but found her equipment captured some amazing - and hilarious - sights.
A cheeky Patas monkey, already an unusual-looking species, appears almost alien-like as it moves so near to the camera that cannot focus.
Similarly, in a side-splitting trio of images, an olive baboon takes such a close peek its nose nearly touches the lens.
In another picture, a juvenile olive baboon appears to cast a dismissive glance sideways at the camera as it follows it mother.
Other highlights include a Jungle Book-style herd of elephants sauntering by, a fearsome rhino looks about to charge at the camera, and, at one point, a pair of inquisitive cattle herders stopping to peer into the lens.
There are also cameo appearances from impala, zebra, oryx and, seeming slightly shy, a giraffe and ostrich that only poke their heads into the frame.
Night-vision images reveal buffalo, hyena and Jackson's hartebeest - along with an African elephant shortly before it knocked the camera over and bent the support pole to a 45 degree angle.
Blair, from Louisville, Kentucky, uses the images as part of dissertation research in her fourth year as a PhD student in Princeton University's Ecology and Evolutionary Biology program.
She has set up ten heat- and motion- triggered cameras in steel cases on fou...
