Luxury car maker Bentley is to use a driving simulator to help develop new models.
The high UK end firm says it is a more eco-friendly way to do research.
The installation looks like a race game simulator complete with virtual reality screen showing the road ahead.
But it is in fact much more high tech than that.
It is described as a “ full spectrum “ driving simulator.
Among the elements the simulator can accurately assess cabin acoustics and vibration, as well as supporting seat development.
It will also enable ride comfort evaluation over various simulated road surfaces, including potholes and bumps.
It is being hailed as a valuable , time-saving representation of vehicle response, long before the reliance on physical prototypes would have previously enabled.
The sim is installed at the company’s factory in the town of Crewe where every Bentley is crafted by hand.
Bentley believes the pioneering technology will save around 85 tons of CO2 and up to 350 days of traditional road testing per vehicle prototype.
The simulator was specially developed in Italy by global simulator specialists VI-grade.

The latest model from luxury car maker is said to be child’s play to drive — because it is an upmarket tricycle for kids.
The new three wheeler , the 6-in1 Mulliner Trike, is described by the UK builder as being inspired by the firm’s bespoke Mulliner coach-builder.
It comes with replica Mulliner wheels, hand cross stitched leather cushioned seat
The frame painted in a colour called White Sand from the official Bentley Motors colour palette.
The trike has been created to grow alongside its young owner.
It introduces several features inspired by Bentley’s Mulliner cars, including a new seat that was developed specifically for this trike.
It has added soft inserts, this seat simulates the shape of the car seat and ensures extra comfort for children.

ROYALS - Kroenung von King Charles: Bentley kreiert Krönungs-Autokissen
May 2, 2023, Crewe, Cheshire, United Kingdom: To celebrate the coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, a team of Bentley’s craftspeople have worked together to produce a limited series of bespoke cabin cushions for a fleet of Bentleys. The team, based at Bentley’s Dream Factory in Crewe, has used a combination of fine craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology to digitise the special Coronation Emblem before creating each bespoke cushion by hand .Three full days and four iterations or embroidery processing were required to achieve Bentley’s exacting quality standards, with nearly 30,000 stitches in each emblem needing careful refinement. The emblem consists of two separate thread colours, and three different colourways of the emblem were used, to contrast the individually-selected hides for different colours of cushions to match the interiors of the Bentleys that will use them..Each cushion took over three hours to produce and uses hides sourced from Northern Europe where the temperate climate and lack of barbed wire fencing reduces imperfections. Each hide is checked and marked by hand and eye before being precision cut. Stitched, shaped and finished entirely by hand, the completed cushions rivals the quality of the cars themselves. Trim Developer Ella Mitchell has led the craftsmanship process that’s produced the bespoke cushions for this unique occasion. The cushions will remain with Bentley’s press cars for a time and are not available for purchase..The most noticeable element in the cabin of any Bentley is the choice of colour of the leather used. The colour combinations for the cushions have been matched to the individual specifications of two Bentayga EWBs and two Bentayga Hybrids, and one other highly bespoke Bentley, in time for this weekend’s coronation celebrations..The colours of the cushions include Cricketball, Cumbrian Green, Imperial Blue and Saddl (Credit Image: © Cover Images via

Luxury car maker Bentley has unveiled a bespoke model in time for Christmas - as a gift for Santa. The famous flying Bentley bonnet mascot has been replaced with the gold figure of a reindeer. The coachwork of the festive Flying Spur V8 is in a red finish with a diamond finish said to represent the snow peaks crossed. The vehicle was created by Bentley’s bespoke Mulliner department. Its mission is to respond to the requirements of the most discerning Bentley customers through unforgettable bespoke cars. The V8 badges have been replaced by a special ‘Reindeer Eight’ badge signifying the power train Father Christmas is more familiar with. Following the lead reindeer, the standard chrome bonnet strip has been re-trimmed in gold, and coordinating hand painted fine line details shimmer from the rear of the Bentley wing badges. To emphasise the speed and performance required to cover the significant distance by Santa, a gold styling specification has been included. This comprises of a carbon diffuser to the front and rear bumper, carbon side sills and a boot lid spoiler – for maximum aerodynamic performance at cruising altitude. There are 22 inch golden wheels with all season tyres fitted.
