Osprey catches large goldfish from pond, Devon, Britain - 17 May 2016

Forget takeaways, this hungry bird went one better with a flyaway fish supper. The bird of prey is seen flying away clutching its bright orange prize after plucking a fan tailed goldfish from a pond in Devon. The hungry Osprey then flew back to its feeding perch and devoured the fish - the fourth it had caught that day. The owner of the pond, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the winged predator in the tree overlooking his garden. And he was even more impressed when it swooped down and pounced on one of his large goldfish - giving him a bird's eye view of Mother Nature at her best.

Bee-eater bird catches a bat, Nahala, Israel - 26 Jun 2015
FULL COPY: http://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/qmgs
A bee-eater bird has been captured trying to bite off more than it can chew.
The remarkable photos of the hungry bird were taken near the village of Nahala, Israel, by wildlife photographer Shuki Cheled on 26 June.
Shuki was bird-watching when to his amazement he witnessed the bird killing the bat and attempting to swallow it, however the bird failed to do so.
European bee-eaters are known to feed on flying insects and are not known to try attack something as large as a bat.
Shuki said: "We were amazed to see that the prey was actually a bat! The bat was alive and flapping at first. The bee-eater proceeded to hit the bat against branches until the bat died.
"The bee-eater spent the following minutes trying to swallow the bat, flipping it over and over, without success. Eventually it flew off, with the bat still in its beak, so the eventual outcome remains unknown."

With Saturday (25 April) being World Penguin Day, wildlife photographer Paul Goldstein has shared some of his favourite pictures of the aquatic, flightless birds.
Wimbledon-based Paul, who guides for Exodus Travels, has led many expeditions to the poles on small ice-breakers, so has had great opportunites to document penguin behaviour.
He explains: "I love the polar bears of the North but there is something magical about the penguins down South that entrance me. Yes it can be a mission to get there but it is palpably worth it.

Ospreys hunting for trout, Rothiemurchus Estate, Scotland - 10 Aug 2014
This plucky osprey shows exactly what it is made of by catching something tasty for its dinner. In an awesome display of precision flying, the raptor swoops down upon its intended fishy target before snatching it cleanly out of the water. After making something of a splash, the osprey then reverses its trajectory and takes off to the skies again with the fish firmly clutched in its talons. The amazing predatorial display took place on a lake at the Rothiemurchus Estate in Scotland and the stunning shots were taken by wildlife photographer Ian Rutherford. Ospreys originally disappeared from Scotland in 1916, but since 1959 they have gradually made a comeback and today the country is home to an estimated 300 pairs.
