REPORTAGE - East London: Alltag in Hoxton
30th November 2017. Spotlight Hoxton. Hoxton is an area of East London, England and part of the London Borough of Hackney. It is immediately north of the financial district of the City of London. Hoxton forms the western part of Shoreditch, being part of the ancient parish and subsequent Metropolitan Borough of Shoreditch prior to its incorporation into the London Borough of Hackney. By the end of the 20th century, the southern half of Hoxton had become a vibrant arts and entertainment district boasting a large number of bars, nightclubs, restaurants, and art galleries. Property prices have continued to rise steeply since the early years of the 21st century as property developers have moved to cash in on the area's trendy image, central location and transport links. Some galleries have, as a result, moved to nearby Shoreditch, or have relocated further afield to cheaper districts such as London Fields or Bethnal Green. Chris Nelson, Mechanic & Teacher at London Bike Kitchen, Whitmore Road. LBK has been a fixture of the area for 5 years with two shops beside each other- one a traditional bike shop offering spares, repairs & retail sales with the other, more interesting shop (photographed) acting as a drop-in centre for locals to work on their own bicycles- totally inclusive with an expert hand on-site should you need a little steer. They also offer lessons & classes on everything from basic maintenance, to the very popular "Build your own Bike" classes. Both shops operate as social enterprises.

REPORTAGE - London: Alltag in Holborn im West End
29th March 2017. Spotlight Holborn. Holborn is a district in the West End, central London, forming part of the London Borough of Camden. The district is home to Hatton Garden an area noted as London's jewellery quarter and centre of the UK diamond trade, but is now home to a diverse range of media and creative businesses. On Holborn Circus lies the Church of St Andrew, an ancient Guild Church that survived the Great Fire of London. However the parochial authority decided to commission Sir Christopher Wren to rebuild it. Although the nave was destroyed in the Blitz, the reconstruction was faithful to Wren's original. In the middle of the Circus there is a large equestrian statue of Prince Albert by Charles Bacon (1874), the City's official monument to him. It was presented by Charles Oppenheim, of the Diamond Trading Company De Beers, whose headquarters building is in nearby Charterhouse Street. Stuart Jolley, Mechanic at Fullcity Cycles, Leather Lane Market. Fullcity has been a fixture of Holborn for 8 years specialising in push cycle sales, repairs, spares & rebuilds specifically rebuilding around vintage frames. There is a real heritage within the shop with over 40 years of experience & knowledge. The owner was also the team mechanic during the famous Race Across America competition.
