The picture shows Cell With Rainbow by Sime Baresic, 27. It was taken at Nature park Vransko Lake. They said: "That afternoon I was asleep and suddenly woke up from my sleep and looked at my watch and I saw it was time to see off the sunset! When I was already halfway to the destination where I intended to photograph the sunset, I saw that something was safely being prepared and hurried to another destination! When I arrived I felt like a little kid, happy and fulfilled! An indescribable feeling to stand and watch and follow what nature means!"The 26 finalists for this year's Weather Photographer of the Year have been announced and the public are being invited to vote for their favourite. The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS), which celebrates its 170th birthday this year, in association with AccuWeather, has put the shortlisted pictures on their website and people can visit photocrowd.com/wpotyvote to vote until September 25.The popular competition, which is now in its fifth year, has attracted entries from around the world.

Mimo the cat asleep with one toy mouse on his head
Mimo the cat sleeps soundly despite toy mice, Japan - 01 Feb 2016
A cat owner was so impressed by their pet's ability to sleep soundly they tested him out - by placing toy MICE all over his body.

The Japanese feline fan snapped Mimo the cat in a typically laid-back snoozing position.

Lying on his back and sprawled on a comfy duvet, Mimo didn't flinch a whisker when one plush rodent was gently plonked onto his head.

A further TWENTY meeces liberally placed about the head? Not a flicker.

So, a full-body mouse blanket ensued, with a top-to-toe covering in the critters.

The mysterious - and michevious - 22-year-old owner, known only as Mimoza, tells REX Shutterstock: "He didn't wake up, so I played a trick".

A photographer has captured a series of striking images of Cuba's Wi-Fi 'Revolution'.

Photographer Valerio Berdini captured a series of images that show Cuban faces illuminated by mobile phone light, as many browse the internet on their mobile phone devices for the first time.

In June 2015 Cuban citizens gained access to Wi-Fi for the first time when Cuban government-owned telecommunication company, ETECSA, began installing 35 Wi-Fi hotspots in the parks of the main cities.

Until that date the web in Cuba was an affair limited to the guests of few luxury hotels and some official state offices.

Matthew and Nicola Morgan, both 34, were amazed to see their pet scaling the 15ft ladder to get to the first floor of their barn.

The couple from Appleby, Cumbria, run their own tree-surgery business and have just moved into a rural property.

Matthew explains: "The first time he did this he was very cautious; he stopped about nine or ten rungs up and seemed to finally realise what he was doing, but after a pause he continued on his way.

"He is very inquisitive dog and likes to be high up. He always likes to stand on the back of the sofa and look around.

"We think Bentley might smell mice or rodents."

    Life in Tokyo, Japan
    *Full story: https://www.rexfeatures.com/nanolink/t8mw
When you think of Tokyo what probably comes to mind is a modern metropolis of millions of people - from cosplayers to robots, busy crossings to technological luxuries. Meanwhile, the tradition of 'saving' and 'giving' face means that the view of Japan that many foreigners see is somewhat sanitised and homogenised. The desire to avoid causing loss of face for oneself, one?s organization, or for others means less than sanitary can be swept under the carpet. Meanwhile, honored guests and high-ranking people are given VIP treatment in order to 'give face'. In reality Tokyo is a beautiful melting pot of a capital city that is as diverse as anywhere in the world - encompassing both the good and the bad. One person aware of this is photographer Lee Chapman who has lived in Tokyo since the end of the nineties. Initially meaning to stay just a year or two, it quickly hit him that this wouldn't be anywhere near long enough to get a real grasp of the place.

The unnamed and and unsexed baby is the first born at the zoo since 2000 and is the product of the international endangered species breeding program. Father Otana made the long journey from Melbourne to Howlett's Wild Animal Park in Kent in September 2013, while mother Kimya arrived a month later from her birthplace at Taronga Zoo. Primate Department Manager Harna Burton says: "We had high expectations of Kimya because she was mother-raised at Taronga Zoo and had experience watching older females raise their babies. "She seems to have learned from observing those behaviours, as she has been a textbook Mum so far. "From the time Kimya picked the baby up right after giving birth, she hasn't put the little one down. Such young gorilla babies need the body heat of their mothers to stay warm, so we have been monitoring this very carefully".

    Peaceful Portraits Of Dead Pets
A man has attempted to cope with his heartbreak in losing a dear friend by photographing deceased animals as if they have fallen asleep.

Turkish photographer Emir Ozsahin's 'Pastel Deaths' series places pets that have passed on in peaceful and gentle surroundings.

His work sees a dog posed lying on a chair in the garden, comforted by a blanket and with a book to 'fall asleep' reading. Elsewhere, a cat is seen lying on a warm rug in a baby pink blanket.

Ozsahin has posed the animals in such a way that the photographs have a very gentle, childlike innocence about them. His subjects look relaxed and content, as though they are just taking a rest.
The photographer says his own loss made him think about death and ways that he could use photography to help him and others view it in a positive light.

A close friend of his passed away in a traffic accident and he recalls seeing her body covered in newspapers on the highway on television. He says she was only 19 and like a sister to him.

Ozsahin explains: "I couldn't get out of my head the image of her body covered with newspapers. While I was trying to get rid of this image, I realised that the image of her alive was fading away as well. Her last photograph shouldn't have been like that. Or I shouldn't have seen that photograph."

He says the project focuses on what the deceased leave behind and how the people they leave behind want to remember them.
"I worked with animals, and because they are really close to humans, they feel like us. And we humanize them as our human born babies.

Humongous Hippo Pauses For A Snooze
With such an enormous body to haul around it's no surprise that this humongous hippo felt the need for a lie down.

The gigantic creature was snapped enjoying a snooze in the sun in Botswana by professional wildlife photographer Andy Rouse.

As it lay dreaming about what to have for lunch, a small flock of oxpeckers took the opportunity to grab something to eat themselves.

Gathering on the hippo's broad back, the birds got busy picking up ticks and other troublesome creatures from the its huge hide.

    Pig Pin-Ups Of Pennywell Farm
Meet the petite piglets of Pennywell Farm.

This little piggy went for a swim, this little piggy played a piano and this little piggy ate cake.

They might be mini porkers but this collection of micro pigs sure are mighty cute.

The squeally tiny youngsters have all been born and raised over the years at Pennywell Farm in Buckfastleigh, Devon.

Micro or miniature pigs grow to just 14 inches long.

They have sparked a popular pet craze in recent years with a host of celebrity owners including David and Victoria Beckham and Paris Hilton.

Unsurprisingly given their name, mini pigs are much smaller than a standard farm pig and weigh just 9oz when they are born.

At two years old they are fully grown and weigh in around 40-65 pounds and are around knee height at 12-16 inches tall.

The pigs, which can cost hundreds of pounds, can live for up to 18 years, but make popular pets as they are low maintenance, quiet and surprisingly clean.

    Glimpse Into Gorilla Life
These heart-warming photos give a glimpse into the life of one of the planet's most endangered animals - the mountain gorilla.

With just an estimated 786 left in the wild these magnificent animals are living life on the edge of extinction.

Wildlife photographer Dave Stevenson travelled to one of the mountain gorillas' last strongholds - the mist covered Virunga Volcanoes in Rwanda - to capture gorilla family life on camera.

The end result is a charming set of images that reveal just how little distance separates humans from ape.

Photographing a family group, Dave captured the day-to-day interactions that are oh so human.

In one image a mother appears to offer her rather unimpressed young child a gentle kiss on the cheek.

Elsewhere, a sleepy silverback nods off over his supper, and nearby a baby cuddles up to its mother for an afternoon nap.

As tiny babies play amongst the foliage one youngster is dwarfed by a large female it is patiently grooming.

Nervously keeping to the background is three-and-a-half-year-old Igitangaza, who has recently been the subject of an attack by a lone silverback.

The male, who is not part of the group, badly injured Igitangaza's during the attack, biting off the fourth finger on her right hand.

Following the incident the young gorilla was carefully observed by a Volcanoes National Park Veterinary Warden.

Thankfully, she was seen carefully cleaning the wound and has been eating well, meaning she is expected to recover.

However, the incident has left her nervous and afraid.

She now sticks close to the protection of her group's silverback who, in turn, keeps a careful eye on his injured family member.

Bear-ly Awake: Brown Bear Snoozes With Fishy Catch
It's hard work catching fish - just ask this dozy bear who took a nap after landing a salmon.

Wildlife photographer Rick Sheremeta snapped the brown bear nodding off in a river while still clutching it's tasty catch.

He explains: "I spent four days observing brown coastal bears at McNeil River Falls on the Alaskan Peninsula some 290 miles southwest of Anchorage.

"One adult female bear named Yolanda, by local guides, was particular interesting to watch - not only was she fairly high up in the bear pecking order thus allowing her unchallenged access to her favorite spot, but she was an excellent fisherwomen - snatching fish repeatedly time after time.

"On my last day out at the Falls, she was particularly active. She would snare a large fish and walk it into the shallows where she would sit and consume it at her leisure. She did this time and time again but never did we see her leave the water to take a nap break like all the other bears routinely did.

"Well, I guess all this frantic activity finally got the best of her - she finally wandered into the calm pool just as she had done numerous times before, sat down, cradled her catch under her arm and promptly nodded off.

"Unfortunately, her nap was fairly short lived since her little slumber pad also happened to be an active byway for other bears traveling to and from the River - after a few moments of blissful slumber she was rudely awakened by other some other denizen splashing through the water.

"Even though the scene was short-lived, it was a once in a million moment that I was lucky enough to document and capture with my camera."

General views of a nursing home in the UK.UNISON report looking into the running and funding of the care industry, reveals that the collapse of Southern Cross may not be a one-off, as a number of other social care companies are also on the brink of going under. The in-depth study of privatisation shows that the second largest care provider, Four Season, is also in severe financial difficulties and others may follow. If both Southern Cross and Four Seasons were to collapse, around 1,150 nursing and residential care homes would be at risk of closure, affecting nearly 50,000 vulnerable people and their families and hitting over 60,000 staff.Southern Cross is the UK's largest care home operator with 31,000 elderly residents in over 750 homes. It made a loss of £311m in the six months to March 31.
