SAFE TO MOVE AND SAFE TO SCRAP

Although most of London 's debris has been cleared away, there are still many parts of the City where old metal and scrap still remains, one of them being a safe which a London workman found while digging in a bombed building. Now the safe will be used for scrap which will help to make guns and ships for the war effort.
Photo Shows: A workman cutting up a safe, dug up from one of the City 's bombed buildings, which will be used as scrap metal.

    DODGEM CARS FOR WAR WEAPONS

The "dodgem" cars ", ghost trains", scenic railways and roundabouts are to vanish from fun fairs of nine seaside towns in Britain.
They will be used to make tanks, guns, bombs and other war weapons. Besides providing many tons of scrap metal former fun fairs will also provide rubber for which there is a great demand, for use in making war weapons and other equipment for the National effort. Many famous amusement parks have presented several hundred tons of scrap metal to the Ministry of Works.

Photo Shows: Dodgem cars and Ghost trains among a large amount of material collected from a popular fun fair at Skegness, Lincolnshire, arriving at the dump.

11 YEAR OLD LAMBETH BOY SELLS FIREWOOD FROM BOMBED HOUSES FOR LONDON 'S WAR WEAPONS WEEK.

Already sent One Pound and Ten Shillings as a gift to his Mayor.

Ronald Spanner, 11 year old Presbyterian Life - boy of Lambeth, spends his spare time raising money for london's War Weapons Week and any other good cause. Ronald, whose father is a glazier and who has two brothers in the Army, hit on the idea of collecting wood from bombed houses, chopping it up and selling it as firewood to his neighbours at twopence each bundle to raise money.

His pal, 12 year old Dennis Emms, was to help him but, blasted out of his home by a near bomb, Dennis had to move.
Ronald too suffered in a heavy raid, his mother sustaining injuries when a bomb burst just behind their Anderson shelter. But he carried on with his plan and has already sold 30 shillings worth of wood. He sent his money to the Mayor of Lambeth as a gift towards Londons War Weapons Week, and at the end of his letter said, "Please send me a receipt so that I can show the people I have not spent the money on sweets"!
